A selection of quotes from the great man. I wonder what he would have made of football as it is today and especially Martin Jol and the boys...........

"Everything in our favour was against us."

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

"George [ Best] makes a greater appeal to the senses than [Tom] Finney or [Stanley] Matthews did, his movements are quicker, lighter, more balletic. George offers grander surprises to the mind and the eye. He has ice in his veins, warmth in his heart, and timing and balance in his feet"

"[Glenn] Hoddle? No, it's the bad players who are a luxury."

"If we've got the ball, they can't score."

"We aim to equalise before the other team score. We should get our retaliation in first."

"If we Northern Ireland don't know what we're going to do, how can the other side?"

"Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is."

"Ideas are very funny things. They never work unless you do."

Spurs Club Director: "The trouble with you is that you think you know all the answers." Blanchflower: "Ah, God love you, you don't even know the questions!"

"Ah well, ma'am, you see we all know each other!" (Danny Blanchflower to Duchess of Kent at the 1967 Cup Final. The Duchess asked why the Leicester City players had names on their tracksuits and the Spurs team didn't.)

"We've got a good side here, we WILL win the double this season..!"(Danny Blanchflower - 1960)

About the Barnsley Chairman he said; "He is a self made man - who worships his creator!"

Don't think they got on....

He would'nt have liked Benitez and Mourinho much, would he?

And George Graham would've been his arch enemy...

Gotta love him. Did he really predict the double win?

Danny was the first and possibly only person to refuse to go on "This is your life".
When he saw Eamonn Andrews coming with his red book he was reported as saying "Not on your life"
Later he said "I consider it an evasion of privacy"

Just remembered a humorous story from his days as Northern Ireland coach;

Pat Rice walked in to his office and said "player x (sorry can't recall the name) has been playing really well for his club side and is looking good in training, I think he deserves to start in the next match."

Danny just replied "Thanks Pat - it's been noted."

The next day the team was announced and Danny called Pat Rice to one side....."Pat I've decided to take your advice, player x is starting instead of you."

Best quote I know is on a Saturday night TV sports programme called Sportsview or similar the interviewer was I think Peter Dimmock and Spurs had just played their 9th or 10th succesive winning match in double season of 60/61.
Interviewer:
"Well Danny what is the secret to the Spurs winning every match so far this season?"

Danny:
"Most probably because in each match we have scored more goals than our opponents".

There followed a rather embarrasing silence!

I enjoyed all these SO much I hate to be the one to point out that Leicester FA Cup final was 1961 Double year. 1967 was against some no-hopers called Chelsea. By which time time, His Highness Danny Blanchflower had retired.

Vintage stuff though. Nice one, peeps.

Did he die before Glenn Hoddle became a household name? If so, that comment about Hod couldn't have coma from him.

Mr Blanchflower died in December, 1993.

I hope this was not in any way connected with Glenn Hoddle becoming managerof CFC earlier that year.

That comment was a compliment. He was asked if he thought Glenn Hoddle was a luxury player, to which he replied "Hoddle? No, it's the bad players who are a luxury"
