It probably says more about the defence they play behind though. Pickford's made twice as many saves as Lloris this season.

Point is they are all going to be so low on confidence come the Summer if things carry on like they are.

Shame Heaton got injured because at least he was playing in a well drilled defensive side.

I can't imagine that Everton will keep conceding like this all season. Koeman might need to go before it gets better there though.

What do you guys think about Heaton? I think he would be a good shout to be the first choice, been really good every time I've seen him and his stats speaks for himself. Shame hes out for months now though..

So the U17s have made it to the final of their World Cup

If I recall correctly, England youth football has cleaned up in 2017. Haven't they won a number of tournaments and made the semis or finals of others?

Absolutely, we've done well at 3 levels if memory serves.

i dont know how to cope . U-20 world cup winners, U-17 WC finalists. this isnt the England i remember. Is it too much to hope the senior team will achieve this coming summer too?

Considering how well our youth teams have been doing recently hopefully our senior team will be a little less mediocre in the near future.

Although this depends as clubs like Chelsea aren't doing anyone any favours with their wasteful attitude towards youth players (and neither are Manchester City at the moment).

Nice to see Six of our lads made the England squad for upcoming Internationals.

Rose
Dier
Trippier
Winks
Alli
Kane

Hope they do well and come back injury free.

Rose is a bit of a surprise.
I can only assume Southgate is keeping him “included” and hoping Rose finds fitness and form in time for the WC. Of course it might be that Poch and Southgate discussed it and viewed as a perfect opportunity TO give Rose game time to benefit all three parties.

It’s just obviously the other 5 have all deserved the call up, but Rose this season has not.

I know we want to give young players a chance but I'm not entirely sure what Loftus-Cheek and Gomez have done to warrant call-ups.

Because it's a friendly not a competitive match...its either that or continuing with Henderson and Livermore.

Yes, I think your most probably not too far off the mark with the thought that it's an opportunity for Rose to still be involved with the set up, whilst adding valuable minutes towards his match fitness.

I think the Gomez call-up is very interesting - and may be signaling a change for the better.

Southgate specifically said he sees Gomez as part of a back-3, and that his skill fit well in that position. That, to me, is the right way of going about constructing a national squad. Pick a few players to build around, and select the tactics/formation that fit - then find the players who best fit those tactics - instead of simply taking the "best" players, even if they do not fit the tactics.

I don't think its any secret that Southgate is trying to emulate Spurs - given that Kane, Dele, Dier are probably the first 3 on the team sheet. So, finding CBs who can play in a 3, and finding a CM partner for Dier who can push the ball forward, become more important than simply identifying the "best" CM or CB.

Building a team around a defined tactic gives England the best chance for success in Russia. otherwise you end up with a situation where you are trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

Gomez deserves his call up. He’s been part of a very solid Liverpool defence this season.

Loftus-Cheek is annoying because even though that’s the first time I’ve ever typed his name on the iPhone, it automatically puts -Cheek straight after typing Loftus. How annoyed would you be if you were a QPR fan.

I’m all for Southgate picking young players but not Young himself! Hope Alli somehow ruptures Young’s achilles/ego.
