Encouraging, and clinical first half. The second has been really scrappy though and a lot of it self inflicted and we've rode our luck a lot.

A good win though, and the first half performance was another step in the right direction.

Every part of my ACCA came in but one...

Can you guess what it was...

Another game without a shot.
England setting up to get the best out of inferior players.

Yes Kane's good outside the box too but fuck me you're best striker in years and you just want pace so play him as far away from the goal as you can.

What the hell is the sky commentator on about “a result that surpasses their World Cup exploits”.

Winning some glorified friendly is nothing compared to getting to a World Cup semi final FFS

Makes the next break pretty interesting. 15th November Croatia vs Spain - if Croatia get anything from that then England can win the group and qualify for the Final 4 tournament next summer by beating Croatia at Wembley on the 18th (as well as guarenteeing at least a playoff spot no matter how badly Euro 2020 qualifying goes)

Spain certainly were not treating that like a friendly. It still obviously wasn't as important as the World Cup - but finally getting a statement win against a major footballing power is also huge for England.

I'm conflicted, are we actually looking forward to the next International break then?

Plus if we are calling this a competitive game then it’s the first one they’ve lost in 15 years. That’s a great achievement.

You could see they under estimated us in the first half.

He's obviously referring to individual matches...whenever we played a good team at the World Cup we lost.
...and I don't think the Spanish team saw it as a glorified friendly, going by their reaction at the final whistle.

The truth is out, Martin Tyler is a West Ham fan.

Love Dier.

Pats people on the back of the head.

Don
Clever though shows his experience in these sort of games. Gomez was a bit rattled at that point not focussing having cleared it and Dier gave him the tap to tell him to stay focussed.

They haven’t lost at home for 15 years and 38 games. Pretty good result tbf

Spain really didn't want to lose that nor their record at home. Bit of dirty play here and there. I thought the ref was a bit inconsistent, the yellow for Dier for example was crazy, it was a good tackle. They got away with a lot before a yellow their end.

But generally, the first half was excellent by England. I didnt understand the backing off in the second half. It was inviting pressure and I didn't get the tactic. But they players looked knackered at the end. Decent win with some peripheral players too.

Have to be honest Barkley outshone Winks. Winks did a job defensively but didn't do a great deal going forward looking nervy compared to some of Barkleys forward runs and the clipped ball.

Kane has to be rested against the US in November.

Good experience for the Spurs boys, Dier looked like an old in there which is great for us

First goal was the key in that match, we didn't do anything particularly special in possession but didn't have to. They massively overcommitted and we caught them with two rapier strikes with great play from Kane, and the much maligned Sterling and Rsshford.

We did enough though but on another night it could've been very different with them scoring first when their guy contrived to put the ball straight at Pickford with an open goal. And then having a certain penalty denied.

Just glad there were four Spurs involved. I thought Dier had one of his best games in some time and some of Kane's work outside the box was sublime. Winks was underutilised mainly covering the right side (where most of their attacks came from first half) but was decent enough and never shied away from the ball even when marked. And Trippier wasn't once caught ball watching

Best "friendly" I've seen in a very long time :)

The similarities between watching Spurs and England mean I'm always waiting for England to bollocks it up - fair play tonight, they rode their luck but played well and stayed switched on for the most part.

Southgate's subs at the end were almost trolling :):LOL:
