Maybe I'm just being a moany ****, but it annoys me when United fans in reply to Sterling's tweet about the racism say 'Even as a United fan, I think you're great' etc. Congratulations, you managed to put your fan loyalty behind you to support a victim of racist abuse. Amazing. Good job. Do you want a medal for that?

Don’t agree with racism, but I don’t see how you can punish the majority. When it was the minority being dickheads.
Can you really call it a minority when it comes to that part of Europe? It happens so often and with such little done about it I can't believe it is

I remember we played a Balkan club in the Europa League one year, and there was the usual problems with racism... one of their fans came on here afterwards and explained that it was the minority and that the region has long had a problem with the misconception of being completely backwards and racist.

That's an odd thing for Southgate to say when he's happy to give young players who haven't got much Premier League experience a chance.
If you look at his record he has been consistent if you are owned by chelsea, man utd, liverpool and etc. whilst playing in the championship you will be given a chance. If you're in the championship playing well but owned by a championship club you will be overlooked

Because ultimately it's down to the fans to police themselves. I would hope that if a small group of Spurs fans sang something racist the majority of Spurs fans around them would make their objections to such chants clear and in future drown them out. If you punish all of the fans then eventually the majority will start to counter the minority in order to avoid future punishments.

Did that happen with those disgusting chants about Sol Campbell ?

If they can't identify those responsible then I don't see what choice there is. Either put in the controls and infrastructure to identify the idiots doing it, or accept the consequences.

In theory it should encourage the usually silent majority to effectively police the minority and make it known that their shit won't fly as it will only result in them all being punished, but unfortunately it rarely works like that in practice.

I read the idea of a three strike rule somewhere that I would support.

Strike 1 - Fine the FA, one game without home fans but, crucially, allow away fans
Strike 2 - Bigger fine for the FA, the rest of the tournament without home fans (again, allow away fans)
Strike 3 - Expulsion from both the current and the next major tournament qualifiers.

Will UEFA do anything about it? No way.

Because you rely on the majority to keep the dickheads in check.

People that say/do nothing in the stands are as much a part of the problem as the actual dickheads.
