Hoping for a gaping tonight. The sooner Ingerlund are out the sooner all my colleagues who don't know a thing about football can shut the fuck about the world cup.

Haven't even watched a game yet. I really don't like football that much anymore. I know I've grown weary of the game in general but just not bothered at all for the world cup.

Fucking delighted for the Oranje. Always the team I hold a candle for. Hope they finally pull it off. It would be nuts to see them win a world cup.

I feel the same way generally, as you know. However the Holland performance last night rekindled my love for football a bit.

Of course England will inevitably cause the atmosphere to go flatter than Cheryl Cole in a trouser press.

I was all miserable and grumpy about this world cup, because much like being a spurs fan, my optimism is virtually dead for England's chances.

However, after watching the Dutch game yesterday, seeing costa rica turn over Uruguay, and being minutes away from the England game, I'm disturbed to find myself getting excited. I'll never learn....

Come on boys!!!!

Same. It's even got to the point where I'm having to inhabit the fact I find these England players quite personable, rather than just be aware they're not twats like the last lot and shuffle the fact out of my mind.

I will be happy if they just do us proud. Go out and try to win. If we fail, so be it. Give us something to cheer about.

Yep. I recorded the Holland match and will watch their games. Otherwise, I'll pass. No doubt the Dutch will go full retard at some point but it'll be fun either way. Bit like Tottenham really which explains why I've always liked them.

Hodgson is a moron his tactics tonight were moronic. In heat he decides to let Italy have possession.

Johnson and Baines are absolutely dire at this level. Really smart to travel with no realistic alternatives. Why on earth did we have to send Baines to take corners from the right ? He was totally exposed and outnumbered enough without having to sprint diagonally back if it gets cleared. Mind you he might as well have not been there for the second goal, the ease with which he was sold a dummy was so embarrassing it was almost funny ! And Johnson was a joke even coming forward. It was hard for the 2 central defenders so I hesitate to criticize them.
Once again Rooney was very poor. He contributed nothing the whole game apart from his cross for the goal which he negated by missing a sitter. The attack should be built around Sturridge not Rooney. He should be left out against Uruguay. Once Sturridge went off we had zero threat apart from a few flashes by Sterling.
Next match we need an extra body in midfield so we don't get overrun . I thought Barclay looked lively when he came on except for trying to beat 5 players at times instead of releasing.
Still the first half we played attacking football but ran out of ideas in the second. At least we can see the promise of the younger players even though we will most likely fail to qualify. Finding 2 good full backs on each side will be a challenge. Shaw is the only stand out prospect.

I'm sorry, but I can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it. Although it sucks that he has to miss the rest of the tournament.

Thta was a harsh loss, we played the best foootbal ive seen in ages, but certain experienced players dissapeared early. It didnt help also we seemed to be scared of balotelli lol...

I just couldn't believe what I was seeing when we sat off the Italians and let them have the ball without even any attempt at pressing then.... We were obviously aiming to counter at pace but you still need to press , even if you do it deeper... We were lucky to get away with it being only 2-1... Farcical tactics

i agree, the young players really stepped up and showed their quality. just a shame about some the "senior" lot.

Don't know why the need for criticism really, that's the first time in a long time we've looked dangerous going forward, actually quite optimistic about getting out of this group tbh.

Gutted. I had lewin in the sweepstake.

On a side note I was disappointed not to see Lambert not given a run last night.

Also Rooney looks fucking fit. Sticking him on the left was madness. Either play him or don't. I know he had the assist but really? The left winger?

The Daily Mail (no surprise) are a disgrace. They are acting like the players were a disappointment when they couldn't be further from the truth, for the most part.

I'd back Italy to win the thing, they have good players in every position. We held our own very well and should have at least drawn the game, if not won it.

We played some nice football as well so credit to Roy.
