Impossible to prove or disprove if a player says they have a bad back. He's been so bad for England though that I don't think it's a loss. Plays well for his club but not the national team.[/QUOTE]
C'mon mate, that back's under huge pressure with that fat arse pulling down on it day in day out

Really good for him. The response to it seems strange though with lots of people thinking he's rubbish. Seemingly they have never watched him play for us.

Or England, considering he was our best player at the Euros last year.

Why Maguire at CB? You've already got Livermore and Loftus Cheek, why do you need Dier in midfield too? Play him CB and take Maguire out, bring Rashford in.

3 at the back plus 2 DMs is a recipe for disaster at the WC.

I don't see how?

What use is it going to be against teams that park the bus? Southgate goes on about playing pretty possession football and then he doesn't play the right players for it.

If he plays Dier, Stones and Maguire in a back three then that's three competent players with the ball at their feet who can play out from the back (he said as much as he dropped Smalling who isn't good enough with the ball). If Winks is one of those DM's which I'm pretty sure he will start in Russia then that will also aid a possession game for England as well.

When has Southgate gone on about possession football? Also it's a World Cup, there are unlikely to be many teams that park the bus, and even if there are 3ATB can still work as we have shown in the past year

I actually hope we are the team that 'parks the bus' or least plays on the counter attack, in a similar style to spurs against lpool and Madrid, at the World Cup and hopefully we will see us play like that tonight

I don't have an issue with the 3 at the back. My issue is that playing Dier infront of 3 centre backs is bad enough never mind when you've got another DM next to him.

For me Dier should be CB and in the WC we should have Winks alongside Henderson or Wilshere as CMs. I just don't think you need a DM as much as you would with a 4 man defence shape.

Now I know there are a lot of players injured but why not pick more ball players like Tom Davies or Tom Carroll instead of Livermore if you're intending to play 3 centre backs? I know Carroll is nowhere near good enough (neither is Livermore to be fair) but if we want to play attractive football then at least pick some decent technical players.

Presumably because Livermore has been in and around the squad since Southgate started the job and it's a pointless exercise picking Carroll who may be a little technically more proficient than player who knows exactly what his remit is, Livermore's not a starter by any means so we're not really gaining anything by dropping him for Carroll.

Is Livermore playing? I haven't seen the team announcement yet.

I don't think you can read too much into the tactics and personnel that we'll use for this match. There are so many players missing and we're playing the world champions so it stands to reason that Southgate might use a system that will limit chances for the opposition.

Three Spurs players in that team is not enought to make me want to watch it.
In complete agreement their CO, but, I hope our boys perform well for their Country, put in good performances for their part & most importantly for me being a mental Spurs Fan, they all come out of these two games injury free
