Some City ITK claimed he was all set to join us and even spoke with Poch. City didn't like the idea of him joining us and essentially forced him to move abroad.

I'm sure he's loving that City forced him to Dortmund as he would not be in the England squad now if they hadn't

Absolutely, I'm sure he was apprehensive at first but this has turned out to best move for his career. You keep saying harping on it the youth thread but for a lot of these youngsters, leaving to go abroad is the best way to jumpstart their careers and actually get minutes.

Brighton's Lewis Dunk has been called up to replace Tarkowski who picked up an injury at the weekend.

Shaw out with an "injury", Chilwell is called up.

I really do sometimes wish that our players would fake out every now and again.

Southgate is being very clever with his selections, dropping those as soon as they stop playing which is essentially telling players play or you won't be picked. This will in turn make England players at big clubs move to get game time which is what they should be doing.

Random note but I haven't seen an England manager who's done anything like it in the recent past

Seen a couple of reports saying Kane was excused an afternoon training session to rest. Whoopie bloody do.
Give him the week off for God’s sake. I hate this Nations League nonsense, friendlies given a new title. Especially straight after a World Cup summer.
He didn’t even get a typical holiday after the World Cup due to the new baby. I’m worried for his long term burn out.

He's replacing them with players who dont play, if anything I have seen more players who dont play under southgate than any other manager

Yep I agree, they are utter nonsense. The “competition” will vanish off the face of the earth within the next decade.

They should scrap the autumn international games the year after a world cup/euros IMO. To be honest if I had a free choice I'd say scrap international friendlies altogether and just have qualifiers + tournaments. At a push maybe have a couple of warm-up friendlies between the end of the season and the start of the WC etc. but is there really any need to have umpteen friendlies or "nations league" games every single season?

Unfortunately they're money spinners for the various nations so sadly I don't see them disappearing, if anything I think they'll try at make it an even longer season be it domestic, European or global domestic or international competitions. I think they believe they can make it a 365 calendar happen and eventually the top teams in the world will start requiring two squads to cope.

Did that breakaway Super League chatter fully go away or get temporally parked? There was the Premier league pushing for 39 games.

Thanks to Brexit nobody knows what the lay of the land is going to be in a couple of years, football has always lived in its own bubble that my hunch will be that in order to keep high attendances clubs will have to reduce ticket prices for the common man but they'll need or look for a way to get that lost revenue back by either breaking away or creating more games from somewhere.

All my own onions and sorry for the lengthy post.

Slightly disappointed Kane is starting (but, seeing as I can’t change that fact, it does make me care a little more for how we do).
