Im so pissed at Gareth Southgate now. He couldnt switch to the back 4 during the world cup? Like that could have very well won me $1000. Not happy.

His reluctancy to leave a formation that saw us create so little is what frustrated me so much, so happy he's trying something else.

Bittersweet, he would really have fit in at spurs. Dodged a bullet apparently...

I said we should get him in as a potential "replacement" for Dembele - he travels with the ball well and can play himself out of tight positions

But OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The front 3 have taken all the compliments, but the foundation for this has been a midfield 3 that can work together and have complementary skills. Dier holds, covers and distributes, Winks controls tempo, retains the ball and passes constructively and Barkley thunders forward with the ball at his feet.

There are two midfielders on the pitch who have creative skills - different ones - and that makes a major difference. If this finishes like this, Southgate is going to have some big decisions to make about who his favoured midfielders are.

As others have observed, Kane has been brilliant, but overall, it's been the precision of the play that has caught the eye. It'e everything that Croatia and Spain were and we weren't. It looks like a team.

Spain's positional indiscipline in defence has helped.

A word for Harry Maguire. That boy has some defensive heading ability.
