I can never get excited about England. So so boring. The Burnley or Aston Villa or Stoke City of international football.

I don't think its "reliability" with Hart - I think its two factors: Pickford is probably #1 now, and I think Southgate wants a keeper who can play the ball with his feet - which is why I think Pickford beat out Butland, and why Hart serves no real purpose.

You would pick Lallana and Wilshere over Alli??
That's nuts. Neither of them have done enough to warrant getting in the squad, let alone start!

Assuming we are playing on the front foot, we need round pegs in round holes, and a balanced team - something no England teams in this millennium have ever been. I could have chucked in yet another final third, finishing off moves attacker (which is what Alli is, in my opinion) but where is the balance, we need players who can get their foot on the ball, always show for it, creative types in the centre of the park. The cupboard is bare as it is, so with those who even remotely fit the bill gambles have to be taken.

Edit: Alli would be very much in contention to play off the left hand side, I might even still pick him there if it was up to me..... I just don't personally think his game is yet mature/advanced enough to play as one of those dual 8/10 playmaker roles. I wouldn't even select him there in that set-up for Spurs.

I know what you mean, but they are both terribly unfit. I am not even sure Lallana is going to make the squad.
Given the dearth in the middle I would be inclined to play Sterling and Rashford (or Lingard) in a 433, with Alli being in the middle 3, moving Forward to supplement the attack.

Tarkowski on the standby list apparently, I'm surprised given we want to play three at the back.

I'm guessing this will be the squad:

Butland, Pickford, Pope

Alexander-Arnold, Trippier, Walker, Maguire, Jones, Stones, Rose, Young

Dier, Henderson, Delph, Dele, Sterling, Lingard, Lallana, Livermore/Cook/Loftus-Cheek (hopefully the latter)

Kane, Rashford, Vardy, Welbeck

From the BBC:

"Hart is now in the painful position of having no future at England level and a very uncertain one at club level with his stay at West Ham now over. The fall from grace is complete."

Did Hart have it off with David Ornstein's wife or something? What an utterly ****ish way to end the article.

How close to the WC can we call people up from the reserve list?

I want Lallana to go, but his fitness is a huge risk.

The only shock is that that is already being reported, given that GS has until Wednesday to submit squad. Anything can happen between now and then, shower accidents and all...

As someone who manages youth Teams and has to submit squads, I always wait until the last minute (though actually in truth the players do know before hand).

It doesn't mean that he's submitted the squad, he's just started making the calls to tell the players that are going to miss out. He'd get all sorts of stick if the players found out after the list came out.

From what I gather you have to submit the the twenty-three man squad at ten days before the start of the season I don't know if you can bring in replacements after that.

Either way, you can bring Lallana and take players from standby if necessary, Personally I wouldn't take him though, he spent most the season injured but the times he has played he hasn't show anything to suggest he's the same kind of player before injuries. If he was like a key player to the squad okay its worth the gamble, but he isn't, bring in someone else.

Rose doesn't deserve to be in the team either, hasn't been good enough to warrant it, its arguable that his form this season isn't even good enough for any team in the top half. Probably two of Young, Delph and Bertrand should be the left backs. Got a feeling that Southgate's gonna be loyal though.

Southgate making 2 good decisions already. The fact that both players have leaked they’ve been left out demonstrates this. Thinking about themselves over the team.

Rose's last few games habe been fine and I think he should go, it's a different situation to Lallana who hasn't been fit at all this season, Rose is further along in his fitness than him.

How many of the 2014 squad can you name in 3 mins? I only got 12. We have a much much better squad now IMO.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43953451

12. Not one Spurs player in there last time round!

This time round we should have five. Probably six if Winks hadn't got injured. That's some turnaround... no players in the England squad in one World Cup to potentially quarter of the squad for the next one.
