Media up in arms about Sterling’s gun tattoo. At least we know he’ll be the scapegoat so at least our players should hopefully escape any blame.

Yeah the gun tattoo he has already explained is symbolic to him as his father was shot and killed when Raheem was a nipper and swore never to pick up a gun. Also, he shoots with his right foot.

But as always, media wont let facts get in the way of a good faux outrage.

Wouldn't be a tournament year if the English media weren't doing their best to destroy one or two of our players in the build up.
Maybe they should check the tattoos of everyone else in the squad, just to make sure there's no-one else with something that could be called offensive.
Does any other nation's media do this??

Kane said England fans have a weak mentality in England when it comes to our players, he's exactly right.

I dunno, I mean, if a member of my family was stabbed and killed, the last thing I’d do as a ‘tribute’ is to get a knife tattooed on me to remind me of the way they died. It’s similar to me getting a tattoo of Herbert from Family Guy if my son was molested. Yeah he’s explained it and yeah the media are ****s this time of year (and the rest of the year) but he has really brought this one on himself in my opinion. If he’d just said ‘I had a gun tattooed on my leg because my leg was made for shooting’ and didn’t mention the dad thing then it would’ve been more quirky and acceptable for me. But even then, the irony is that shooting is his worst attribute. He scored 18 this season but missed about 627 cos he shoots like a 6 year old with osteoporosis.

Whether his reason for getting a tatoo is legit or if you believe it or not can we just leave it, it's hardly a talking point and really doesn't deserve the attention it's getting.

People make such a massive hoohaa about minor things, everything becomes a talking point, everyone has an opinion, so fucking sad lol

I can’t really say this without sounding harsh but who are you to say let’s leave it? It’s a thread about the England team and the shitarse media have made something of it so it’s open for discussion. By all means say it’s a mountain out of a molehill, which it is, but it isn’t really for you to say if we should chat about it or not. Plus Sterling having it on show for the world to see before a major tournament, when guns are in the news particularly with all the school shootings isn’t exactly the wisest thing to do. He would’ve known it was gonna be news.

The irony of ‘everyone has an opinion, so sad’ surely can’t be lost on you.... Just so I know for future reference, are there any other things we’re not allowed to discuss in here? ?

Totally agree to be honest mate, but I'm very much in the live and let live camp. If he feels like it reminds him of a promise he made to his dad then all power to him and I don't think anyone has a right to start being outraged about it.

I don't subscribe to making footballers role models either. Footballers are no more role models than actors, singers, politicians or anyone else in the public eye. Parents are the real role models, or at least they should be.

Yeah I agree with all that too. It’s up to them what they want to do (within reason of course) and that should be that. But he had to know it would cause controversy. He’d have to be really naive to think a gun tattoo in the present climate wouldn’t bring unwanted attention.

No worries Rob.

But really..... I think the tattoo is stupid so I’m Piers Morgan? ? Almost as bad as saying ‘everyone has an opinion, so sad’ on a football forum...
The tattoo is shit, like most tattoo's, but this is a whole new level of shitness to be honest, but it's his leg and up to him what he puts on it and it's hardly newsworthy.

Yep exactly what I was saying, shit tat and he should be able to do what he likes. But as I said above, he must’ve known it would bring negative press, especially approaching the World Cup when you make headlines if you wear odd socks.

The whole sterling is nothing to do with the actual tattoo at all. It’s just another reason for the media to be absolute ****s towards him. We all know why they are doing it and it’s pretty disgusting. It’s 2018 and not the 70s (not that it was acceptable then either of course).

The media do need to back off our players as it’s like they want to vandalise our chances before a tournament.

It’s like the dentists chair incident before Euro 96 - sure for me was a stupid thing to do but hardly effected how we performed as best tournament I’ve ever watched England in... (weren’t really into football at time of World Cup 90 so cant include that).

They been nit-picking at Kane since the Stoke goal claiming and now going back to their favourite target Sterling (who I admit I think is a bit of a cock but he will be representing England so get behind him!).

Gossip, shitbaggery and hanging people out to dry sells. That's the sad truth.

As for whether the shitrags create the stories because that's what the people want, or if the people lap it up because it's so prominent and easy to access, that's the million dollar question. But there's absolutely no doubt that loads of Englishmen a) hate seeing successful Englishmen, and b) are so tribal that they can't wish any players playing for rival clubs anything well, not even when they represent their country.

And as for Sterling, he has a lot going against him. He's black, so the racist element is very much in play, plus he left Liverpool so the Scousers hate him (not that they buy the Sun anyway) and he plays for City so the United fans hate him. That's the two biggest fanbases in the country against him, which means that bad stories about him generate clicks. And it's sad.

Who the fuck is even interested in him having that tattoo though? Who is the target audience?

They’re only doing it to be twats pure and simple.
