I think Dele is nowhere near as bad defensively as most people think he is, some of his best performances for us have been when he has played deeper and has had to work hard winning the ball back.

Kind of the point playing them together surely? As a unit they seem to work well. Not every midfielders has to be able to do everything.

I think playing that kind of structure allows some compensation balance, but I still don’t think it’s the ideal balance or blend.

Ok in games or phases when England are allowed to dominate the ball, or maybe on the odd counter but even Nigeria figured them out and stopped them playing for an entire half.

You either need your central pivot to be more dynamic and metronomic or you want at least one of the lateral 8’s to be more dilligent and metronomic, ideally you want 2 of the 3 of them to be defensively dynamic and dilligent and be able to press the ball. Dier and Alli can’t/don’t press well and I’m not sure Lingard does either, and I’m certainly not sure they can do it cohesively or coherently as unit.

Danny Rose been speaking about racism and safety in Russia. He's told his family he doesn't want them to go out there, sad that they won't get to see their son play in the World Cup.

These sort of line ups piss me off. Managers moan that its hard because they don't get the squad for long, they get 2 matches before the tournament and play 2 completely different teams. Surely we should be using these games to prepare our first XI?

Was coming to post the same.

I can understand swapping 3 or 4 players that might be starting or for a change of formation, but this just seems like ohh well you are in the squad, go get a start!

I think the point is to get games in the legs of all the players.

Some of these players although not starters will be needed and without this game they’d have no actual game for over a month since the season ended

Then surely you play the reserves in friendly matches against the u21's or players they have invited to training.

The first XI needs time together to build an understanding. Fitness can be given to the rest of the squad by other means.

I'm probably the most fickle England fan in the country, as soon as I see that there's no Kane, Alli, Dier or Trippier my interest levels drop 10 fold.

The changes don't really bother me. If he's plays the first team and someone gets injured then he gets untold abuse. It also means that you keep the competition for places going in the squad as every player will think that they have a chance to play if they do well.
