Gooner friend said that rose will cost us atleast one goal and thinks he's always been suspect defensively. Honestly don't know what these gooners go on about.

He probably remembers Rose’s balls up against them in The FA Cup a few years back.

FIFA rankings are very unreliable, and Peru will definitely be competitive, and Panama combative. The Asian teams are the weakest this year, but obviously in qualifying they pick up the right points. As I said Nigeria will be disappointed to fail to get out the group.

Some good news today from FIFA. They're changing the rankings to a modified Elo system which should result in significant improvements to the rankings over time. For those who aren't nerds like me who digs into the math of the FIFA ranking system, I can tell you the change was required because of the new UEFA and CONCACAF nations league. The current system would have led to massive under or over rankings depending on what weight was used for those matches.

I'm not a big England fan, it doesn't matter to me who wins the WC, but I have to wonder: Why are the English pundits so set on talking down and trashing their own national team? The latest is Arsenal past time fuckwit saying the Tottenham players will destroy England. http://www.espn.com/soccer/england/...d-cup-because-of-tottenham-players-tony-adams

They are not Tottenham players when they appear in the WC. They are your players, you English, through and through players fighting for your country.

Dele’s turn to be had a go at by the papers. A snide attempt at undermining him that all the papers seem to be carrying. Surprised it took him so long to appear on their scapegoat list.

Its all in how you teach 'em priorities ....

My wife said the other day . 'The World Cup as I see it , is Spurs (5 England players) against the rest of the world '

( Wheres the sodding hearts emoji when you need one :shifty: )

[famouslastwords]Is it just me that thinks England could have quite a smooth run to the last 8? There's nothing to fear in Group H (unless Colombia have more to them than James)...[/famouslastwords]

Colombia will be a challenge, no doubt about that. Better defenders than England, more athletic midfield, world class creative talent in James and Falcao up top to score the goals - the type of striker you know will raise his game in a tournament.

Ahhh memories of “its only Iceland”

On paper we ‘should’ make it to the quarters as we have a nice draw. The problem comes at the quarters where we’ll be playing Germany (if we finish 2nd in group) or Brazil (if we top our group).

Just got to hope by the quarters they’re playing as a team rather than a group of individuals

Draw wouldn't be a bad result

Every game is crucial in the group stage, draw will make the group completely open with Panama expected to be a punching bag for all.

Win 99% to qualify for knock out rounds imo
Draw 50%
Loss 10%

Anyone see Walkers whinge about playing at ch and not being able to "showcase his talent"? He also said Pep has amazingly improved his game this year or he wouldn't be able to play there. So full of shit, like he's amazingly improved this year:meh:

We're doing that already aren't we?

Far more sign of it in the last two friendlies but in competitive games we’ve had a frustrating tendency to try and grab individual glory over team effectiveness. It’s one of the main things that holds us back against the top teams.

Always appears that for club sides players are surrounded by people they trust whereas for England they would rather run down a blind alley or shoot into a crowded box rather than feed a teammate.

This squad do appear much closer though so I’m hopeful (Southgate has impressed me this past month and I’ve been converted into a supporter of him)
