The official team of the tournament was announced this morning (23 players), with Xavi being named player of the tournament. The list is as follows:

UEFA EURO 2008™ Team of the Tournament
Goalkeepers:
Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Iker Casillas (Spain), Edwin van der Sar (Netherlands).
Defenders: Bosingwa (Portugal), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Carlos Marchena (Spain), Pepe (Portugal), Carles Puyol (Spain), Yuri Zhirkov (Russia).
Midfielders: Hamit Altıntop (Turkey), Luka Modrić (Croatia), Marcos Senna (Spain), Xavi Hernández (Spain), Konstantin Zyryanov (Russia), Michael Ballack (Germany), Cesc Fàbregas (Spain), Andrés Iniesta (Spain), Lukas Podolski (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands).
Forwards: Andrei Arshavin (Russia), Roman Pavlyuchenko (Russia), Fernando Torres (Spain), David Villa (Spain).

Some seriously strange selections in there. Like Philipp Lahm (who was crap) and Bosingwa (who can't defend). Not sure Ballack had his best tournament either. Also it's a shame that only one player from Turkey and one player from Croatia made the list, but then I guess the rest weren't big enough names.

No Modric?

That's weird.

Glad Xavi got player of the tournament. He is my favourite player not to play for Spurs obviously. Keeps the game moving, maybe doesnt get as many goals as he should be i think he is pure class along with Iniesta.

Malouda was my player of the tournament. In a Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd kind of way.

Does anyone know what the flag that Sergio Ramos was wearing represented? It was bugging me last night.

Flag? Didn't notica a particular flag, but his t-shirt had Antonio Puerta's face on it and something like 'you will always be with us' written on it, they were teammates and best friends before Ramos moved to Real.

Just as kind of an after-thought to the whole best moment of the tourney, I forgot to mention Buffon's penalty save to keep the Italians in it. Fucking incredible. For my money he's the best in the world and proved yet again with that save--talk about rising to the occasion, skill and artistry. Perhaps I'm a bit biased because I used to play keeper as a lad before being moved into the mid-field because I was tall for my age.

Honestly, though, this has been such a great tourney IMO that it is nearly impossible to pick out one moment as the most memorable. This tourney seems to have almost been a response to the last Euro...

He was pretty crap, wasn't he?

But after Metzelder's displays at CB I shall henceforth only say kind words about Michael Dawson.
