Yep, great tournament. I think we've got Turkey to thank for a lot of that though.

Oh and RIP Partizan.

I think every team can take some credit out of this tournament. Every team (bar Greece perhaps) tried to play football for the most part and often the footballing teams came through. I was most disapointed with Holland, thought their tactics were negative from the off and Cruyf was spot on in his criticism of Van Basten. The final should been Croatia v Spain, but then we wouldn't have had the opportunity to see Ballack lose again (despite playing and refereeing the game). This tournament was all about midfielders and very few strikers impressed. 5 man midfields and their various conotations were to the fore. Although the only team with decent strikers (Spain) did play both - and won. hope for 442 yet ???

My team of the tournement:

Buffon

Sabri
Mathijsen
Carvalho
Capdevilla

Iniesta
Senna
Modric
Arsharvin

Torres
Villa

Subs: Casillas, Puyol (all heart), Zhirkov, Xavi, Pirlo, Gattuso,

Good tournament, best team won and all that..

I wouldn't group England with Spain as perennial under-acheivers, though. England are just shit.

Totally agree with you B-C, Senna has been magnificent this tournament. He bullies opponents and makes those crucial interceptions and tackles that start counter-attacks and save the defence's collective arses. That is EXACTLY what we need at Spurs.

Silva lucky to still be on?

but now he is going off befor he is sent off

He was, but Podolski deliberately got in his face—literally—and provoked him.

What a pile of shit the Krauts are. Metzelder makes Dawson look world-class, and Mertesacker isn't much better—and how the hell does Hitzlsperger get picked? Are they that short of CMs?

Senna was absolutely brilliant. Where can we get one?

very good tournament, which i thought at the start it wont be for some reason, i would go along with bus-conductor and say senna was my pick for the player on the tournament, would love to see a few of those spainish players at the lane next season.
the russians played some lovely football at times. the next few weeks will be interesting to see what players caught the eye for certain mangers so let the tranfers begin

nice to see Spain win it tonight... they completely outplayed Germany, and played much better on the night...

Spain have a better team and some superstars in their team...
Germany play well together and are physically strong... but not at the final!!

Ramos is gonna love it as well!

Pretty good teams, I agree not many strikers impressed. Torres didn't have a great tournamnet by the standards he set this season but still better than most. I possibly would have put Arshavin as a striker so I could get Zhirkov in the team as a left mid. Pranjic also should prob be in there too, was fantastic, would have him in there instead of Gattuso who was disappointing.

I thought Sabri was very impressive going forward, altogether less so in defence—and if Bosingwa plays for Chelsea the way he did for Portugal Makelele's going to have his work cut out covering.

I had Pranjic in my half way team a few posts ago. But Capdevila just pips him and zhirkov for me on the basis that he was actually outstanding defensively whereas the other two are both better at attacking than defending.

There actually weren't that many outstanding CB's to be honest. Even Spains defenders can commit harry carry at times (especially Puyol and Ramos who must scare the shit out of their fans at times.). Marchena deserves some credit and probably should have made my squad. He was very solid and consistant all through.

I was impressed with Altintop of Turkey, I thought he looked good in this tournament. I think Senna would be great signing for us, but Villareal are in the CL and we are not.

I also heard what Lehmann said, what a nob.

Nihat's winner against Czech Republic. For some reason I jumped out of my seat when he scored.

Have to agree there, that whole match was remarkable--though the first goal for Russia against Sweden was some Arshavin inspired poetry...

I think Spain are potential world champions they just need belief.
Aragones himself was lucky to still be coach. He never apologized for his racist remark against Henry, infact he defended it. The spanish FA gave him a piddly little $3000 dollar fine which he challenged successfully in the courts. So he got no punishment, the incident had a knock on affect in the Match against England and other la liga matches.

Does anyone know what the flag that Sergio Ramos was wearing represented? It was bugging me last night.
