Have to say, very disappointed with @WindyCOYS on this week's pod. I mean spit in my mouth but this bunch of lads showed they care more about this club than perhaps any other team in living memory, and we weren't in with a real shot of winning the league anyway imo. Considering Chelsea were happy to run the ball into the corner at 2-2, do we really think they'd have done us a favour against Leicester?
Yep. I'm usually a big fan of Windy's work but I disagreed with almost every word he said on the podcast about the game on the weekend.

I don't think we can yearn for an end to the soft-touch Tottenham; the Tottenham that led to the Sir Alex half-time speech, and then go and condemn them when they show some fight and stand up to the biggest bully in the playground. There's something that is extremely contradictory in that attitude imo.

If I get 10 minutes later I'll respond to this and similar comments as I think my stance has been misinterpreted slightly.

This bunch of lads pissed away a 2-0 lead which would have meant beating Chelsea in their own back yard for the first time in 26 fucking years and preventing all their wanker fans from sucking each off on the way home because they'd finally fucked our title chances.

But you're right, the feeling of utter despair in the pit of my gut as Hazard stroked in that equaliser was blissfully eclipsed by the cheery site of Walker taking the petulant kick of a 3yo girl who'd just had her favourite crayon snapped at the prostrate hard nut that is Pedro.

Of course that's how you feel. Of course you single out Walker.

Hold up, there's no need for all this "dullest blogger" garbage. @WindyCOYS has proven that he's FAR from dull with the fact that he has almost 24 thousand followers on twitter and I can't imagine any of us are hitting anywhere near that number.

As far as the pod goes, I listened to it and whilst I was more inclined to agree with Flav and T, I understand where Windy is coming from. I think he did use the word "ashamed" which was probably a bit far but the reality is that we were comfortable in that game til half time with the use of controlled aggression but in the 2nd half we lost our sh*t and there is no doubt in my mind that had we stayed calm then we could well and have seen that game out and even added to our goal tally. Everyone knows that anger gets you nowhere in sport. You have to keep your head and focus on what you're doing and our players got carried away.

Flav made the best point when he said that this is a young team and that is key here. Youthful exuberance was probably more to do with it than anything and also it's quite clear how riled up their pre-match comments had made us. Poch was also known for being a feisty player so I dont think he'd have discouraged this behaviour, it just got out of hand.

I have no concerns about it. I don't see it happening again and this will have been a great learning experience for the players. Yes, in so many ways it was awesome seeing us be so strong and physical when we haven't been in the past but when it comes down to it, we drew a game we were winning 2-0 and had we just played football I dont think that would have happened.

Yup. Not much of that can be argued with.

However thats not what we heard from windy. What I heard anyway was a lame & failed virtue-signal which grated badly.

I can't get past the 'ashamed' bit & other bytes which I don't specifically recall & I'm certainly not listening through it again to confirm the vernacular :hungover:

For someone of your stature, @WindyCOYS, quite frankly I think your comments were borderline disgraceful & had no place in the public arena. In fact I think you may have used that very term yourself iro our team of heroes? It's bloody Chelsea, man, we were the skinny little kid taking down the biggest fattest playground bully. Do we punish that kid?

Sorry. I respect you & all - I do. But that was an uncomfortable listen, Man.

Did we really lose it, or did Clattenburg just lose all semblance of control in a game that was fiery?

I don't agree that we were disgraceful, I too was happy to see some fight in the lads and it did to me illustrate the passion and connection to the club amongst this team that I have never really seen from a Spurs group before

I do however think people are going over the top on what we did to them. What do you mean when you say we took them down? Did we hurt a single one of their players? Are any of them injured for the next game? Will any of them have so much as a bruise?

We didn't take them down in my opinion, we fell in to their trap.

They wanted to wind us up and get a reaction out of us because we were the better football team and beating them handily on the day

Fact is we did react, we lost our heads and we allowed them back in to a match they were dead and buried in.

So I don't agree that we stood up to them and took them down, I think we lost our heads, fell in to their little trap and threw away a 2 goal lead and the best chance in 26 years to win at the Bridge

How did we take them down metaphorically though?

As I said, I think we did exactly what they wanted us to do by losing our heads and not playing to our best (which was to outplay them and obtain a 2 goal lead).

If we had roughed them up and taken them out of their stride and that enabled us to beat them when they were previously better than us I could understand the metaphor (in a crazy gang wimbledon fashion where they were able to compete with better teams by being aggressive)

But we are the better team right now, and we were beating them by 2 goals. They wound us up and made us lose our heads and as a result we threw away a game we were pissing

It doesn't at all seem like we took them down to me, metaphorically or otherwise - just feels like we lost our rag and lost the lead by falling for their silly mind games and WUM behaviour on the pitch

We took them down mentally I think his point is. People think they can get away with anything towards this team in the past and we would just take it.

Do you think Cesc will be hesitant when up against Dier again? Too fucking right he will be because he knows Dier will have no problem going right through him.

To be honest no I don't think Cesc would be hesitant and I don't think we did anything to them mentally

We did what they wanted us to do

They spent a week or two before the game playing mind games to try and evoke such a reaction and they achieved a reaction that resulting in us throwing away a 2 goal lead

I think Cesc would be delighted to see Dier foul him and get booked or even sent off again and I think he and all of Chelsea would be equally delighted if we lost our heads like that again instead of playing our best football and destroying them as the better team

If anything I'd say they beat us mentally because they successfully made the better football team lose their rag and throw away a game they should have won

Perhaps you & I use the turn of phrase in different contexts

but

All that shows me is chelsea got in our heads like they wanted to with all their pre match talk and on field wind up behaviour

We dropped points in a game we should have won and that's exactly what chelsea wanted.

I'm sure they were laughing at us post match and happy to have made us act that way and throw away the game, certainly not feeling mentally or metaphorically beaten

They had the last laugh on the day

Nonsense. How do you think people feel when they see Charlie Adams on the team sheet? You'd certainly think twice about going into a tackle with him thats for sure.

To be fair it's fine margins

Had they not equalised or Mason put the game to bed, I'd no doubt have a completely different outlook and agree that we stood up for ourselves and showed all sorts of fight and passion etc etc

The fact we were 2 goals up and blew that lead however just has me feeling Chelsea knew right now we are the better footballing team and they wanted to wind us up and take us out of our zone to give them a better chance to compete against us as they knew football to football we were the better team currently but get us involved in a scrap and they negate some of what makes us better than them

It's like a slugger trying to draw a classy pugilist boxer in to a dog fight all out war in the ring

Nonsense? Come on now, just because we don't agree doesn't mean you should be dismissive of what I say

I could understand being hesitant against a player like Adams if he's likely to make a stamping shin break challenge, but that's hardly something to be proud of

Dier isn't that sort of player so no reason to fear him, it's just gonna be a hard tackle and at worst a fail

Was Cesc ever actually hurt during the game? aside from his over reaction to Lamela standing on him I don;t think he was remotely hurt once and I seriously doubt anything that happened in the game would have any knock on effect to him playing against us in the future

Except perhaps to reinforce his idea that it works to wind us up and make us react so we don't play them off the park with our best football and give them a route to success (also by getting players on yellow cards and even reds)
