To be fair it's fine margins

Had they not equalised or Mason put the game to bed, I'd no doubt have a completely different outlook and agree that we stood up for ourselves and showed all sorts of fight and passion etc etc

The fact we were 2 goals up and blew that lead however just has me feeling Chelsea knew right now we are the better footballing team and they wanted to wind us up and take us out of our zone to give them a better chance to compete against us as they knew football to football we were the better team currently but get us involved in a scrap and they negate some of what makes us better than them

It's like a slugger trying to draw a classy pugilist boxer in to a dog fight all out war in the ring
I'm just kind of thing to kill this convo tbh because you're preaching to the converted, I've got nothing to add to your line of conversation. I agree with you. You don't agree with my use of the turn of phrase 'took them down' as an analogy, that's fine. I'm hanging after a 12 hour session on the rum so I'm not firing on all cylinders (nb. I'm not a vehicle - this is again an analogy! ;)) & am perhaps expressing myself poorly - or I am & you simply disagree & that's fine. I don't care too much about all that albeit you've dragged me in! Haha

The thing is I just don't see what it's got to with my point, that being whether Windy should or should not publicly broadcast adjectives such as 'ashamed' & 'disgrace' in reference to our team

I was just giving my opinion on your statement that we beat them with our rough housing because I had a different take on it

I already agreed in my opening post that it was ridiculous to call our team a disgrace or be ashamed of them. I've never been more proud of a Spurs team in my life than this group

Nonsense? Come on now, just because we don't agree doesn't mean you should be dismissive of what I say

I could understand being hesitant against a player like Adams if he's likely to make a stamping shin break challenge, but that's hardly something to be proud of

Dier isn't that sort of player so no reason to fear him, it's just gonna be a hard tackle and at worst a fail

Was Cesc ever actually hurt during the game? aside from his over reaction to Lamela standing on him I don;t think he was remotely hurt once and I seriously doubt anything that happened in the game would have any knock on effect to him playing against us in the future

Except perhaps to reinforce his idea that it works to wind us up and make us react so we don't play them off the park with our best football and give them a route to success (also by getting players on yellow cards and even reds)

Yeah sorry. Nonsense was a bit harsh but I think you may be underestimating the significance of what we did in that second half.

Like I say, Mentally they will be hesitant.

No team has ever won the league being the nice guys, I think a lot of our supporters want us to be "above" this sort of thing but over the years all it has ever gotten us is the square root of fuck all.

It's about time we started showing this side of our game and yes nine yellow cards is over the top but the truth is if Clattenburg wasn't being a biased twat they would have got just as many.

I think our players and our manager were sick of everyone being against us and I think they probably feel the ref's are a big part of that as well, when we were playing West Brom for example they spent the first 36 mins of the game just wasting time and the ref didn't warn them once, despite our players constantly telling him.

It's that kind of thing that has created a seige mentality with our players and if we can refine that it will work in our advantage.

I am sick of us being the "nice guys" and winning nothing because of it, we need to start taking advantage whenever we can, it may not be pretty but what would you rather have? A bunch of nice guys with no backbone that never wins a thing or a team full of ruthless bastards that will win at all costs and never give up?

I know which one I would rather have, let's leave the soft spurs behind and stop being blinded, nice guys finish last.

Yup. Not much of that can be argued with.

However thats not what we heard from windy. What I heard anyway was a lame & failed virtue-signal which grated badly.

I can't get past the 'ashamed' bit & other bytes which I don't specifically recall & I'm certainly not listening through it again to confirm the vernacular :hungover:

For someone of your stature, @WindyCOYS, quite frankly I think your comments were borderline disgraceful & had no place in the public arena. In fact I think you may have used that very term yourself iro our team of heroes? It's bloody Chelsea, man, we were the skinny little kid taking down the biggest fattest playground bully. Do we punish that kid?

Sorry. I respect you & all - I do. But that was an uncomfortable listen, Man.

Fair enough, I certainly respect your opinion.

I guess this is one that can very much be argued either way with a great deal of passion on both sides. The TFC lads generally tend to agree on things and even they had quite a strong debate about it. Some people appreciate a scrap and some people appreciate more of a finesse approach. I would say that we needed to find a nice middle ground and hopefully we'll see that in the coming seasons.

We shall see

Personally I think all their talk prematch was designed to get us to react the way we did so that they could drag us in to that type of match and give them a better chance of beating us

So I don't think it will have any negative impact on Cesc, I think it was what he wanted

We will see next season I am sure

An opinion about Tottenham Hotspur had no place in a Tottenham Hotspur podcast?

Windy!! - Would you mind awfully doing a wee shout out on the next Podcast for me? :)

Ha - give me a reason to and it'll be a pleasure! Maybe ask a question?

@WindyCOYS I'd like to know if you feel Harrison can make the step up as Kanes number 2 or should we be buying someone?

cheers :)

You have a certain 'stature', Windy, & you know ... 'with great power comes great responsibility' as my friend Spider-Man is fond of saying

The club directorship, Staff, players & stakeholders have to temper their opinions with a thought to the fact that their words carry more weight than others & will be more widely read, interpreted & accepted as given.

By design or by accident you've attained a certain gravitas & a large circulation - so. sorry mate, but you must give a thought to the ramifications of your public opinions IMO

How do you think the young players will feel hearing you, a man who's known for championing them, referring to them in the vernacular you used? You think you might have knocked them down a few emotional pegs as we now focus on finally finishing above the scum under what will likely now be very difficult circumstances ? I'd say so

You're not a little pissant like me whose opinions would be taken as little more than fluff at best - when you say something, particularly full on broadcast, it resonates & they'll have heard you & those who you influence.

Whatever man. You do & say what you want but don't expect me to always like it

That said, in the 8 years or whatever I've followed your posts, broadcasts & such its the first time I've ever taken umbrage to something you've said or written. I have respect your knowledge & commitment but you've had a mare here

Did we really lose it, or did Clattenburg just lose all semblance of control in a game that was fiery?

This (to an extent) - almost all of the coverage of that game ignored the fact that Chelsea's provocation of our players didn't end with the pre-match comments. In the first 10 minutes Mikel squared up to and took a swing at Dembele and Fabregas kicked out at Dembele in a manner almost identical to what Walker did. Dembele's 'gouge' was dumb and I won't defend it but he had been wound up all half with the referee turning a blind eye. His reaction once Costa squared up to him was largely inevitable.

In the second half we started to lose out heads and the equaliser saw us lose it completely. It was disappointing that we didn't respond to the equaliser at all. I haven't listened to the pod yet but maybe that's what @WindyCOYS meant. However, whilst there wasn't much to enjoy about the last 10/15 minutes, the frustration and anger displayed by the players was somewhat heartening. They care as much as we do and how many sets of fans wish they could say that about their team? How many years have we longed to say that about our own? Give me Walker and Rose's petulance over Assou-Ekotto's nonchalance any day.

No need for any digs about WIndy's blog - if its not your thing don't read it. We're all on the same side and although every fanbase has its dickheads, @WindyCOYS is one of our good guys.

Peace and love and up the Spurs.

All that shows me is chelsea got in our heads like they wanted to with all their pre match talk and on field wind up behaviour

We dropped points in a game we should have won and that's exactly what chelsea wanted.

I'm sure they were laughing at us post match and happy to have made us act that way and throw away the game, certainly not feeling mentally or metaphorically beaten

They had the last laugh on the day

By all accounts they wanted into our changing room to continue fighting.

I love the pod normally but couldn't listen this week. Was looking forward to them talking up the team and within the first 15 minutes they put me on downer. Glad I didn't listen to rest of it if Windy used the word "ashamed" about Monday night. Jesus. There was nothing to be ashamed about Monday night at all. At all.

Is there nothing in the terms of video footage? Like how man city have the whole tunnel vision thing going on?

Perhaps someone filming the drama on their phones at least?

If you'd listened on, you'd have heard Flav and T totally disagreeing with me for most of the pod - all viewpoints were very much covered.

Thanks for replying. As I said I'm a big fan of the pod and buy the fanzines(which are also great). Keep up the good work and wouldn't normally criticize anything you lot do. So yeah, most importantly thanks for all your hard work! It's genuinely appreciated.

I guess we're all dealing with what's happened in the last couple of weeks in our own ways and it's a sore spot for me at the moment. I'm just incredibly proud of spurs and everything they've done this season including Monday and it's been horibly grating how we've been talked about in the media. There were 2 teams on that pitch on Monday and 1 referee. If it descended into a battle rather than a football match we certainly were a long way from being the only party to be at fault.

In my opinion in that situation we had 2 options, fight or roll over. And I'm glad for the first time in a long time we chose the first option. We went down swinging, literally and I'm proud we did. I'm not down about the result, I'm not down about Spurs, the season, monday night or anything. I'm excited for the years to come and if Poch thinks it's important to keep our nasty streak for when refs aren't protecting us then so be it.

I think a Fantasy Football 'Phoenix From the Flames' re-enactment of each of our nine yellows would make for good viewing.....(if Baddiel wasn't involved of course).

If I get 10 minutes later I'll respond to this and similar comments as I think my stance has been misinterpreted slightly.

Jotted down some thoughts whist in the launderette!

http://windycoys.com/2016/05/2408/

I realise that some of you will still think that it's a load of sanctimonious old muck, and that we were right to lay a few kicks on them for all of their years of conning referees, etc. But at least it gives my rationale. Sorry to those who felt I was OTT on the podcast this week - but we don't want to shy away from having opinions, even as our listenership grows - that wouldn't be right.

Your points are all pretty fair, but I do hugely disagree with this...

"Some fans have justified this by saying that this is why we have not won anything in our recent history. That the reason we have not won leagues is because we have never shown this passion, aggression, fight, spirit. I could not disagree more; there have just been better teams."

What constitutes a better team really? We had some of the best players in the world in the 80s, yet never were able to mount a credible title challenge, because we'd always go up north and be cowed by the likes of Liverpool's targeted aggression. In the end it was - It's OK, you know, Spurs are a cup team, Glory, Glory...etc.

Poch is changing the identity of the club, there may be hiccups along the way, but if we back him, he'll take us to real glory.
