If Liverpool beat us in our first game at our new stadium i will never hear the end of it. Its going to be carnage. I really hope we batter them... please.

well at least now that can't happen, though we still might lose, bound too due to lack of transfers, we are doomed :X3:

If there is one positive to the stadium delay is not having to play Liverpool there 1st up. They would be fired up for the game, even at Wembley they will be fired up. "Were" we to lose at the new stadium it just wouldn't sit right.

On topic i think we can win against Fulham & Watford and draw with United and Liverpool.

Newcastle (A) - Won
Fulham (Wembley) - Win
Watford (A) - Win
United (A) - Draw
Liverpool (Wembley) - Loss

Total: 10 points from first 5 games.

I think that should be our benchmark, anything more than that would be great(y)

10 points and I'll be satisfied. Any more and I'll be pretty ecstatic, considering how little rest/pre-season most of our key players had.

Dropping points is never good, but to average 2 points per game (the same ratio as we got over the course of last season) is not bad when 2/5 games are against direct rivals. We then have 4 matches against bottom-half teams, which gives us a chance to build up a very healthy tally early on.

Great start! Glad my post window blues were unfounded and Harry scores in August!

I'm enjoying the fact I had relatively lower expectations this season and it's allowing me to just look at one game at a time without thinking too big picture and not worry about other teams games.

As decent as our start has been, let's face it, Fulham and Newcastle are hardly world beaters, I still see us not turning up, again, at Man Ure and I can't see us doing to Liverpool what we did last season, draws at best in both of those games.

Yeah same, this season has zero expectations for me considering the crazy disruption with the stadium, the World Cup effect and the transfer window.

I’m just going to go along with whatever happens and make sure I’m not too disappointed, just see how each game goes and where we end up is what it is.

Harry's done that before last season too!

Yeah im not going to get over excited because it will be difficult later in the season when the mental fatigue from a lack of rest kicks in and also because of our window its hard to see where the solution to our falling short in big games will come from so I wont get ahead of myself until we are in those situations and find a way to succeed.

Yes, it’s important to pace yourself. Get a little bit excited now but don’t overdo it. I got overexcited in 05/06 and ended up burning out.

Fall short in big games? Some of last season results -

Won 4-1 vs Liverpool (h)
Won 2-0 vs Man U (h)
Drew 2-2 vs Liverpool (a)
Won 1-0 vs arsenal (h)
Won 3-1 vs Chelsea (a)

So only games against city we didn't get a win or points against. We did lose away to Man U, Arsenal and home vs Chelsea, but I don't call that falling short in the top games, one or two more draws or wins and that's impressive results imo.

Kane isn’t a slow starter. He just doesn’t score while the summer transfer window is open.

All depends how you spin these things. See tomorrow how I’m right.
Or yesterday, whatever.

F.a Cup semi final vs Chelsea - play better and dont get the win
F.a cup semi final vs United - Play better, go 1-0 up, fail to get a 2nd, concede, look devoid of ideas and lose
2nd Leg vs Juventus - Play better, go 1-0 up, fail to convert chances to get a 2nd, concede twice and look devoid of ideas

There's a pattern in those big moments, granted we have improved our results in prem games but fact is in the big moment in cup tournaments we have seen the same consistent pattern, hell half our team was the England team and the exact same thing happened vs Croatia.

To be fair you could say the same about practically every team except a tiny elite. United beat us but came up short in the final. Likewise Juventus went out. Liverpool did brilliantly to get to the Champions League final but failed at the final hurdle.

Yeah but I want us to get into that elite as I'm sure you do, I appreciate what you're saying that unless you win you're always going to have that 1 game but it's the fact our way of losing is such a consistent pattern of scoring, being ontop and not killing a game followed by conceding then being devoid of ideas. That's why I feel that we needed to find a solution in the market to give us a different dimension to get us over the edge but we will now need the players who have been following this pattern to find a solution in getting past it.

Half our team were in the England game that won a penalty shoot out for once.

Against Croatia Kane was playing more of a midfield player due to the lack of quality England have there. Against Man U and Juve Kane was not 100% after his injury and wasn't at his best IMO and we struggled at times in those games due to that ( and didn't take our chances to put the game to bed also)

Yes we need to improve, but so does every club really. Real won the CL but got one draw and a loss to us and didn't win their league.

Yep I do agree with this. We need to find a way of making the next step from very good to winners.
