Not F1, I know, but I read the story of Sophia Florsch, Van Amersfoort F3 driver, who had broken her back in a "high speed crash" at Macau. Macau is a narrow street circuit, so big wrecks there are always entertaining and nearly always end up with a big pile of expensive scrap and lots of drivers wandering around laughing, so I went looking for the footage.

HOLY SHITBALLS!

But, testament to the chassis;

Incredible she walked away from that, hope she makes a rapid recovery.

edit: Just found some spectator's video for it in real-time :nailbiting:

Seen the video earlier. Still not seen what happened to cause the crash but as you said, she is lucky to come out of that.

Right at the end of this clip you see her make contact with another motor

From what I have read, that bent one of her front wheels off kilter and spenged her brakes. The first video is as every one slows down for the corner, she's got nothing and appears to wheel-to-wheel the car in front of her, launching her into the air.

She's tweeted that she's alright and is going into surgery today/tomorrow. Tickaboo, lass - clearly ballsy if she's got herself a drive in F3, even moreso for walking away from that. Well, hobbling at least.

Do engineers get awards? The guy who put that car together most be proud as fuck right now.

What a waste of a drive. Particularly when people like Ocon don’t have one

imo, Kubica before the accident was twice the driver Ocon is. I can't imagine Williams would be taking a punt on him, he's been working with them in a specifically tinkered car for a couple of years too.

Force India has changed its name to...Racing Point F1.

As a Williams fan, I welcome this move. We may have a shit car but at least we don't have a shit name and Lance Stroll driving.

Looks like next year will be a continuation of F1's slow death. The same boring to watch tyre and fuel management, almost non-existent presence on free to air TV (only the British GP will be shown), we might be losing Silverstone and Monza from the schedule but gaining Vietnam and Ferrari will continue to receive the largest share of F1's money regardless of where they finish in the drivers' and constructors' championships simply because they will continue to receive a £31m bonus on top of their prize money.

Williams line up could be decent to watch next year. Certainly Kubica and Russell will be more interesting than Stroll and the other fella.

They could be a good watch next year but it all depends on the car. Williams is in transition at the moment with a few of the senior engineers leaving. It'll be interesting to see what car the new lot produce.

And they've produced a car worst than the car that finished last in the previous season. Not only is not going to be ready until the third day of testing but it's also apparently at least two seconds slower than last years car. Can't see Williams continuing much longer.

A 2 second slower car is probably still better than a McLaren just now!

When Frank passes away I imagine his family won't be slow selling the team, if it's still going.

Shame, must be tough looking back at the Mansell days, they were top of the pile, right up there with Ferrari and McLaren but the Senna business and their slow decline has been sad to watch.

Not managed to keep up with practice at all - How's Force India getting on?

Force India's been taken over by Lance Stroll's dad and renamed Racing Point. They were slightly slower than Haas and Alfa Romeo today but the real entertainment will come mid-season when Stroll Sr. demands parts from Perez's car be put on his son's car like he tried to do at Williams.

Loss of the Martini sponsorship, yet another rubbish car, no pay drivers, can't see Williams lasting much longer regardless of whether Frank's alive or not. It's getting hard for non-factory teams to participate let alone compete for podiums.

I had a day out at the Williams HQ for the British GP last year. Phenomenal experience and amazing day but so sad to see how far the mighty have fallen. Best part is their museum, seeing the cars Mansell and Senna had back in their pomp, even the BMW powered machines of the recent past. Need to be bought by a car manufacturer ready to pump in millions (Audi/BMW??) to have any chance of returning to the top now I feel...

Problem is, it’s all about money these days, so a McLaren team can’t financially compete with the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari etc.

However McLaren tyre test was probably the best they’ve had in years yesterday, finally a reliable engine and power and clocked the 2nd fastest time - huge improvement on recent years.

I’m very hopefully of a much better season this year

McLaren do have the budget though, that's why it's been so surprising they've been consistently poor. Williams on the other hand have a fairly modest budget but are still under performing.

To me it seems Williams have some real management issues. Needs a rework from the top down, and that sadly probably won’t come until Frank is gone. Which sadly by then I think it will be to late. If they do then I can just see them becoming a true B team to Mercedes.

I’m hopeful about McLaren. Not dreaming just yet though. Two young drivers as well so just hoping for a bit of consistency in the points this year. Formula 1.5 should be good this year anyway.

This season could be the end of Williams if they are not careful. Missing part of the test is not good. Can't see Paddy Lowe keeping his job.
