Hamilton and Alonso in the same team, that will be interesting

Could be a good idea, could be a risk - we don't really know how much Alonso has got left in his locker, and it's clear he's taken the sport a lot less seriously since his motor hasn't been pushing for the front, but who knows how much he can still tear it up in a top of the line car?

Generally, i think it'd be fun if, at the end of each season, the FIA arranged for all the drivers to come out and all the teams to supply a couple of cars, then everyone do a few laps in alternative cars, just to see what lap times look like, how these motors perform with a different face in the cockpit etc.

Sure, no-one should come close to the times the drivers are setting in their own cars, familiarity and everything, but it would be very interesting to see.

The more i think about it, the more i have to agree with @Spurger King - Perez is probably number one on their radar. Personality wise he's the polar opposite of Hamilton; he's not brash or lippy, he appears to be the straight man when he's racing and just goes about his business, takes care of his equipment, basically a bit of a dream driver for a team boss.

While it would definitely be exciting to watch, Verstappen is (for my money) still a bit too excited, a bit too rash sometimes. Yes, he puts in some incredible laps and pulls off some ridiculous overtakes, to put both cars under drivers who have that wild streak is potentially going to be expensive. Like i said, Verstappen strikes me as much more a Ferrari driver, and i wouldn't be at all surprised if he ended up there as soon as a vacancy appears.

strange news about Alonso to miss the Monaco Grand Prix to race in the Indy 500 instead

McLaren messed up big time, he's bored and is using his leverage to get some excitement into this season.

Not like McLaren are going to be anywhere in the race for the constructors championship, so it also allows them to utilise a back-up driver in race conditions, to see if they're anywhere near being an option for next season.

I don't know what was creepier, Putin's attempt at small talk with the drivers or that bloody huge matryoshka behind him.

Looks like they are re looking at Vettle in the last race and his actions. deserved 2 penalties imo. Driving into the back of hamilton and then driving along side and turning inti hamilton to colide together both while behind the safty car.

Also he acted like he did nothing wrong!

He hardly drove into the back of him on purpose.

By all means extend the penalty for the sideswipe, but the first collision was more down to Hamilton.

I try to think of the first collision from the other way around - how would Hamilton have reacted if Vettel had done that to him?

Considering the radio we get to hear from Hamilton suggests he's basically having a tantrum the entire race, i kinda think he'd have blown his top too.

IF Vettel hadn't reacted and Hamilton had been punished for braking where he did, i don't think many of us would've complained, so if they stitch him up for both collisions, that's just taking the piss.

First incident didn't/doesn't NEED to be punished the second one most certainly did warrant it, I would argue he should have been black flagged for it. The data seems to suggest Hamilton did nothing wrong in terms of lifting or braking, Vettel made a mistake with the first crash. It was a stupid but an honest mistake, one that probably would have deserved a minor penalty of some type. However the second incident was way over the line.

I think the appropriate action was to give him the points on his license (as they did) and to black flag him during the race or post race disqualify him. They have left it too late for that so what are the options? Championship points reduction? Grid penalty at next race or even disqualify him from the next race? I really don't know, they dropped the ball by not dealing it adequately at the weekend.

There can be no tolerance of that sort of behaviour, I am a big fan of Seb but that was not on at all.

Never really been into motor sports, but taking up my new job at McLaren, I'm literally in the thick of it, getting right into it and listening to these guys who live and breath the sport, they can't believe the book hasn't been thrown at vettel for a dangerous move.

Its been shown hamilton didnt break or do anything he shouldnt have been doing. vettel got it wrong out of the corner and hit the back of hamilton.

they have said hamilton did nothing wrong and looked at the diagnostics. i agree hamilton would have reacted, but dont think he would have done that.

And its not as if Vettel hasnt been in troubled for stuff like this before

Not so sure about that. He didn't break, but it's reasonable to expect him to speed up at that point. I'm not saying Hamilton was technically in the wrong, but I don't blame Vettel for the first collision either. It's a grey area where Hamilton would be expected to accelerate, and Vettel would be expected to be more careful. I wouldn't penalise either for that incident.

It's the idiotic game of dodgems that Vettel should be more severely punished for.
