Well if guys have been on social media today you will have seen what I was talking about, the tournament hasn’t even started yet and the hate has already begun. Kane is such a classy guy, it really pisses me off the amount of hate he gets. He’s the perfect role model. Hope he proves them all wrong!

There is a large part of the problem right there. And not just football.

Social media, and the way it is handled by the press, is a blessing and a curse. This isn't anything new. It was happening on football forums years ago. In social media the perception often differs from reality. Most fans don't use social media. Most fans won't bother defending a player on social media or even posting about the player.

Most people only post to go OTT with their love for a player or OTT with their dislike for a player. And what this causes is a very visible divide. But that divide actually isn't as bad as people think because the vast majority of people are far more reasonable. They just don't post. The other thing is that we'll automatically hone in on views that support or wildly differ from our own. So if there is a Kane article and a thousand people reply positively and fifty reply negatively I'll guarantee that most of us would focus on the fifty......

This is my first post but I have been looming for a year or 2 now, finally decided to make an account. Anyway I felt I needed to post my thoughts of something and would like to know if others feel the same way.

I have an issue with the toxicity of our fans (England) , recently I’ve noticed that Harry Kane has gotten an awful amount of hate from the media, Twitter, etc. and I am sure most of you know what i am talking about and previously Dele was receiving a huge amount of hate as well. I am sure it doesn’t bother Harry and Dele, although it does have me wondering, how are these “fans” going to act come the World Cup. I feel many choose club over country, but why have your club bias affect how you treat your nation’s players... I must admit, I have dislike for certain English players but come the World Cup I am going to be fully supporting them. I just have a suspicion most won’t be the same and they will let their club bias dictate their opinions and as a result their actions, which I would find upsetting. I would like to think that the whole country will be supportive but that’s very unlikely. I am interested to find out if other nations are similar in terms of club bias, etc. I just hope I am wrong and that their will be little toxicity from “fans” once the World Cup begins and that we will treat our nation’s players with the support they deserve.

Apologies if this is poorly written and all over the place, it’s quite late, I am on mobile, and I just felt the need to share my thoughts desperately and ASAP. Hope you all understand. Here’s hoping for a good end to the season, COYS!

Cheers,

E

See a lot of fans murmuring over that fact that Harry is the new England captain and not Jordan Henderson. Hendo deserves it more because he's in the CL final now. And the old joke that Harry gonna score all of the goals for every team in world cup..

Imo the fans need to get behind Southgate's decision and support the whole lot, not complain.
