Back at Spurs Lodge, Martin Jol offers his final thoughts on Saturday's derby defeat and looks ahead to tonight's clash against Middlesbrough at the Lane.

Normally we would like to forget a game like Saturday, but we can’t just forget it because it was against Arsenal. We know it’s a very important game for the supporters – it’s all about pride, the Club, the Cockerel. We let ourselves down and let the fans down.

I still feel we were unfortunate with key decisions. The first goal was a mistake while the other two goals came from penalties and neither were penalties, but what can we say now? If you play as poorly as we played you can’t blame anyone else.

We are a fine team on our day like we showed in the games against Besiktas, Chelsea and five or six other times this season but we can be a different team at times, especially in away games. You have to be strong and last season we did that five or six times, kept clean sheets, defended well and showed desire. We have the quality, we now need to show that determination.

All we can do is put it right against Middlesbrough and I’m sure the fans will be right behind us again.

Middlesbrough are very organised, they play with five at the back and sometimes with a row of four in front in a 5-4-1 system, other times it’s 5-3-2. They don’t want to concede goals, that is their main focus and they are difficult to play against because they can hit you on the break.

We have to put things right and we want to do well for the supporters. It’s all about us.

Martin Jol talks the most sense of any manager I can remember in charge. I think he's class and though I am worried about his rotation and our slightly indifferent form, I believe eventually he'll get it right. Its just that after years of under achievement and a sense that last year we'd turned the corner, we are all DESPERATE for success and we don't want to wait any longer. Guess that patience is the greatest virtue one can have in these situations!!!!

Come on Spurs, smash the smoggies and lets get our arses in gear again!!!! In Jol we trust!

There's no disputing it in my eyes, Martin Jol is an excellent coach and wonderful human being. He took our squad last season and put us right up there, we've made plenty of changes this season and we've clicked at times and then lost it at other times. I think we're very close to finally clickin and then gettin a good solid run going. You can do it MJ, keep workin hard buddy!

lets also not forget that IF we get wins against boro and charlton in our next 2 games we'll be on 25 points and right back in the mix! Come on the home form! We'll get to away form once these two are out the way!

What I like is the fact that when we play badly, there is no animosity towards our leadership which is fantastic! These well paid professionals need to take the stick when they don't earn the easy money given to them by hard earnt money from fans instead of the boss getting the stick. it's a first.

Back in the mix? We ARE in the mix! 6 points off 3rd place with a game in hand on 7 of the 9 teams above us - and the teams we haven't played so far this season are Boro, Newcastle, Charlton and Man City.

Plus, our away games so far have included Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool, Bolton and Blackburn - 5 of the 6 toughtest places to go. It's no surprise that we took just 1 point from these 5 - last season I think we earned a princely 3.

The season will be defined by the reverse fixtures. If we keep up our home form, we'll finish top six for sure - as Chimbonda said this morning.

i like ur optomism jonny and your right, i am praying we get a result tonight i live in boro and work 2mora will be a nightmare unless we win, i would agree that jol is a crackin bloke and wish more managers had personality and spotsmanship like him but excellent coach im not sure i thought so and still hope so but he needs to get us in the top 6 every season before he can be classed as an excellent coach. lot of work still to be done.
