It’s not hard to explain Tottenham’s biggest problem as we head into the season: Our squad is thin.

We're going to either a) buy quite a few players over the next few weeks or b) All our players have a injury-free season as possible. Even then, quite early on Poch will have to prioritise the EPL, CL campaigns and Cup competitions.

Not really true. If a player was not going be used, or was going to be used very scarcely, then he doesn't really represent "depth" in the first place. Just having a player in the squad for the sake of a total number of players doesn't equal depth. For instance for last season, there was no depth in reality represented by Wimmer, N'Koudou and Onomah, beacuse they weren't actually played to any degree that represented an actual depth, just a perceived one.

I'm sure we can find someone else to come on and not make much of an impression for the last 3 minutes of every game.

There's depth in quality and depth in quantity- at this stage of his career onomah and the others you've mentioned are more likely to represent depth in quantity

This came across to me as a will reasoned observation. Put the way it has been, it seems to logically raise reason for concern. However, it may have helped to see the wider picture to have a comparison to the 4 or 5 rivals we will be competing against. If they are facing a similar situation, the perceived problem lessens. If the rivals have genuine depth in strength, that suggests to me we should add a couple of versatile players to the squad.

In my experience, regardless of the strength of a team on paper, much will depend on which team loses the most of their best players through injury. Just how big must a squad be to cotend with the unknown?

Just a thought.

Direct is no direct depth from quantity alone. There is only quantity, preferably bridged with quality and depth. You can't have say 10 players you'd never want to use and say you have a nice, deep squad.

Sending Onomah on loan only confirms Levy will bring in quality reinforcement before the window closes. As always he keeps in cards close to his chest and will make the right move at a propicious moment.

It's all doom and gloom then. I'm not sure and in Poch I trust. We shall see. COYS
So do I. He's says we'll sign players and I trust him to buy the right ones. Poch hasn't let us down so far and I don't think he'll start now. Just a reminder that all those seasons where we've signed lots of players haven't gone so well. The trouble with transfer windows is we become like kids at Christmas demanding new toys, we need to think about what we really need.

I genuinely hope you're all right.

It's extraordinarily quiet on the transfer front and intel from inside the club suggests we are only going for three players - two of which are future players and one of which is a RB.

And when you see the likes of Georgiou and Carter-Vickers on the bench over N'Koudu - who's actually looked pretty good in pre-season but has been recently linked with a move away - that could be seen as a surefire sign that the youngsters are genuinely being seen as our source for backup in midfield.

N'Koudu has never seen much game time, sure, but he's always looked good and lively when he did come on.

To most observers it is ludicrous to be relying on N'Koudu, Sissoko and, until yesterday, Onomah as backup for a midfield that helped us come 2nd last season but was already lacking depth and is potentially suspect on the injury front. But that is the situation we find ourselves in at the moment due to our lack of investment.

If they go as well as Onomah, what then?

(Cue some jokers commenting we are better off without them)
