Having had an unofficial tour of the Lane myself in the 90s, and stepping onto the hallowed turf only to be shouted at by the groundsman, this brings it all back. The area of Tottenham quite different on non-match days but there was still a personal connection and some excitement just to be there. I’ll miss the old place but as long as we walk the same streets we’ll be heading home.

Great story. I think people had more time then and the country was still recovering financially and emotionally from WW2, they were a bit more thoughtful, perhaps, than now.

in those days through to the 80's the players got to know their supporters quite easily, usually having a drink in their company at the White Hart

What a wonderful article. Truly encapsulating what Spurs and the surrounding community meant to him.

I'm sure we all love the club but in our own varying reasons. Lovely to highlight the surrounding community as well as the brand of football back in the day.

Great stuff.
