Seems odd for me to say, but I hope we don't bring a right back in and he's given his opportunity next season

Agree. There's no point having a great youth system if your best youth players don't then get a chance to play. If we buy a replacement for Walker then you might as well kiss KWP's spurs career goodbye. The lad needs to be playing certainly next year in not this year

If he's good enough he'll find his way up to the first team, Winks was 5th choice at the beginning of last season and now he's arguably behind Wanyama and Dembele for a midfield starting spot.

Mmmm, kind of. Full back is a bit different. If he has 2 RB's ahead of him he'll be relying on injuries to get any game time at all as without at least one RB injured he won't even be on the bench. It's a lot easier to rotate in young midfielders, there are more bench spaces for them and you can be flexible with the formation

The point is that Poch will know when he's ready as he'll asses him in training, he seems to be a very good judge of player especially for full backs. Winks barely had much match day experience before he came in and started playing, can see the same with KWP.

I didn't advocate bringing in anyone from a foreign league. If you are referring to perreira he's been playing at a much higher level than KWP.

    Exactly this ^

Poch @ Soton developed the then best two full backs in the league (Shaw - bought by Man U, and Clyne - bought by Liverpool).
Poch then turned Rose and Walker into the best two full backs in the league with us.
I expect Poch to know whether KWP is ready now, and also for KWP to become the next best RB in the league.

Winks had made two sub appearances in the Europa league before last pre-season and he smashed it last year.

Let's see how KWP goes against PSG, Roma and Man City. You would think he would get 45minutes in each of those games.

If he looks out of his depth. Then we sign another right back. If he holds his own then we should persist with promoting him to the backup role.

Playing first team football in most foreign leagues is no way comparable to youth/reserve football, and we won't be signing players from foreign leagues where the standard is lower than our reserve league expecting them to ply in the first team.

It's not like Poch pull him straight out of u21 training and into PL though.

The kid been training with our senior team for 2 seasons or there about so should be very familiar with the way we play.

He deserve to be backup this season imo.

Play him LB against Man City just to fuck with them
Bellerin went from pretty much the U21's to the first team and was a huge success

If Chambers, Debuchy and Monreal, didnt get injured Bellerin wouldn't have got his chance at 19 years old and been a huge success and a season later he was voted the best RB in the league.

Kyle Walker barring his physical attributes, Walker wasnt great at anything imo. Personally I think the final third KWP is better than Walker.

If we sign Pereira or whoever then it's pointless KWP staying around this season. I get that Poch likes having younger players around first team for training/learning but there comes a point where they can only develop if playing.
It's detrimental to his development to play maybe 1 or 2 games and the rest in u23.

He'll turn 21 this season, we have to loan him out so he's ready to play in the future because that learning process in terms of game time isn't going to happen here currently.

Really hope this lad gets a chance. Looks impressive and curious to see how he does in the pre-season friendlies.

    Sure, an example of success.
Quite a few more though of players who look great at U21 level, but 1st XI football takes a lot longer to get used to.
