Haven't seen the game so can't comment on his performance but why do people want Trippier sold before Aurier? Despite Tripps lack of pace I'd much rather have him than liability Aurier.

his age, contract situation, and that he hasnt been able to tie down the RB spot as his own

Can't really play him more AND keep both Aurier and Trippier.

Players need a run of games, so if you are rotating all 3 - then they all will suffer. A decision must be made this summer - keep KWP and sell one of the others, or keep both and loan KWP. There is no sense in keeping all three.

If he proves to be good enough, one of Aurier and Trippier will miss out regularly and will be sold - I don't think it has to be a case of rotating all three, we just use two of them and the other is left on the sidelines. It's not nice, but it's football - if you're not good enough, you don't play and then (if there's a buyer) you're sold. There is no harm whatsoever in keeping all three for the first half of next season, seeing how things go with KWP and then, in January, either he's not quite ready and we loan him out, or he is ready and we sell whichever of the other two is not playing. I don't see why that is a decision that must be made this summer when we don't know one way or the other whether KWP is ready.

Keeping all three isn't entirely risk-free - there is a risk of alienating the player who misses out and that somehow becoming a big issue...but that is a much smaller risk than binning one of them and either expecting KWP to play regularly when he might not be ready, or finding out he isn't ready and expecting the other remaining right back to play every week in a system which requires so much mileage from the full backs.

Put it this way - if we sell Trippier, say, and then the first day of the season Aurier gets a long-term injury...we're stuck with an unproven youngster as the only option in an important position. It's an unlikely scenario, but far from impossible. We have enough money to keep the three of them until January, and if one of them ends up unhappy, they can go in the window.

Having said all that, and again in the interest of balance - Pochettino puts a lot of stock in the day-to-day training of the squad (all the times I've defended his refusal to use players like Edwards, the crux of the matter to me is that he sees them every day in training and is better placed to judge their readiness for first team football than even the most avid of youth team followers) and if he decides that KWP is ready, I'd completely back his judgement. Whether that would extend to selling one of the others immediately to make way for him is a different issue though - I suppose you could argue it would be both a display of trust in KWP and a commitment to using him, with no option of backing out on him...but to me it would seem an unnecessary risk when we could keep all three in the short term.

I understand this argument completely as Aurier has been underwhelming but I think we've seen the best of Trippier now but I don't think we've seen the best of Aurier.

For me the perfect scenario is to loan KWP to watford-type club for a season, after it sell the worse of Trippier - Aurier pair to make a room for this kid.

Great idea, KWP needs first team football, and if he is only going to get a handful of matches with us then a loan to a watford-type club could do wonders for his development. It is unfortunate he didn't get more opportunities this season.

The problem with that is not only would we be selling the better right back out of the two, but also we need home grown players, we couldn't even register a full squad in the last Champions League because of it. Just makes more sense to keep Tripps. Particularly because at least we know his ability. Having Aurier and KWP next season could be a disaster too much of an unknown about it.

Replace Trippier with Onomah for the HG quota.

Disagree. Imo he is to good to go on loan. Trippier has been here 4 yeras, is 27, I think he reached his celling. I really like him, he is a good player but just not good enough for what we want to achieve. Aurier had average season but I think he deserve chance.

He was generally excellent, however, this season feels like a bit of a missed opportunity in that he’s basically missed out on an entire year of football.

He should be ahead of Aurier in the pecking order next season, but if he’s not, then he definitely needs a loan.

Really like KWP. He is still just a touch lightweight physically, but I think that will come with games. Crossing, running off the ball and decision making when going forward looked good, defensively pretty good too. Has to get regular football - I don't particularly want to sell Trippier or Aurier, but if one of them doesn't go then KWP needs a loan move and a good season of football.

KWP really should be the RWB in a 3-4-3 formation for us next season. He looks good every game he plays for us...barring the FA cup game at Newport

To be fair he played that game at left back. That's not his primary position.

I hate full backs utilised on the wrong side.

Still one short, and again unproven player at the top level.

Tripps has shown himself to atm give more, both offensively and defensively, to the team than Aurier. Just makes sense that if you pick one you pick Tripps.

It baffles me beyond belief as to why anyone thinks Aurier should have even a sniff of first team football.

Potential mainly and the fact that I think Poch could turn his form around, we'be seen it before.

KWP and Aurier would be my ideal pair.

Thought for a young kid making his first appearance for most of the season, he was bloody brilliant today.
He wasn't alone in making some poor defensive choices, and he has years ahead of him to iron them out.

Thought KWP had a good game today, needs to add a bit more strength during the summer but would’nt be too concerned to see Tripps and KWP as our RBs next season.
