His Liverpool bias and utterly ridiculous reasoning were something to behold when he was at his peak.

Spurs v Liverpool.
'Liverpool have not won in 8 games, scoring zero in that time. And with 84% of their squad injured, and three 14 year old in their line up to face a Spurs side that are unbeaten in 15 and top of the league by 22 points, I can only see one result

Spurs 0 v Liverpool 6'

Not quite retirement. Let go by the BBC and having a little bit of an anti-woke moan . ?

I think he's probably right in the fact the BBC are looking to fill quota's rather than go for the best available pundits, that much is fairly obvious. Not that he'd be on that list anyway if they were. He's just a cliche filled bias ex player with very little ability for getting over any real interesting analysis.

The job he did can be done by almost anyone black, white, male or female as we are witnessing every week on multiple channels.

He definitely wasn’t the worst or least articulate pundit I’ve seen but (and this wasn’t highlighted in the otherwise very good Guardian article) his so called analysis often amounted to little more than sneering. His comfort zone seemed to be making sneering jokes about other people which always makes me feel uncomfortable about a person. Also for sure punditry has moved on but even contemporaries like Andy Gray and Alan Hansen provided far more detailed analysis than Lawrenson did. I guess given his absurd Liverpool bias there was the element of the panto villain about him in that it was enjoyable to mock some of his ridiculous predictions. He has also been on TV for so long that a certain familiarity which is mildly comforting is probably inevitable. Overall though I think he had a good innings.

I'll never forget him after that game where we drew 2-2 at Anfield, where H scored a pen deep in stoppage time. MOTD 2 was like a national inquiry, with the aged lesbian spitting and spluttering at the injustice. Hilarious.

Ridiculous person.

I think the fact that he was old and shit was far more a factor than his ethnicity.

There's no doubt that the Beeb are aiming for a more diverse group of pundits, but I don't see how that has any impact on Lawro who's now at retirement age anyway. Even at his peak he never once seemed like he'd done more than 2 minutes of research and was generally a miserable **** (albeit with the occasional funny withering one liner).

I’m pretty sure Lauro being an oldish white guy didn’t help his cause. But Souness and Linekar are oldish white guys and are still employed. I think mainly he just isn’t that good to listen to compared to other options who also tick other boxes.

Always seemed like he genuinely hated football whenever I'd see him talk about a game. Like one of those who have been stuck in a job too long, but have never done anything else so never leave.

Souness’ days are numbered. So unsexy.

Lineker.

This is another player spelling that people always seem to get wrong. It baffles me.

Perfect example of how its nothing to do with "wokeness", or whatever excuse ****s use these days to complain about when they're called out for being ****s. Blokes a dinosaur and is still in a job.

Ironically, Alistair McGowan regularly used to focus on Lauro's apparent dislike of football when he was sending him up over 10 years ago....
