The Liverpool Game. WHY !!

Even though I have doubts over the stadium being ready for the Liverpool game, I want to know how the hell SKY have got away with putting it on at 12.30. Every supporter attending this game (including me) wants to have a few beers and spend some time looking around the new stadium. Well, this isn't going to happen when the kick off is so early. Secondly, from a logistical point of view 62,000 supporters for the very first time have to get into the ground for a 12.30 kick off. Surely a 5.30 Saturday or 4.00 Sunday kick off would have made far more sense. Finally, lunch time kick offs have historically been poor games, and that is no surprise based on the fact the players have to get up in the middle of the night and eat pasta. Accompany all of that by the fact lunch time games normally have little atmosphere, and the idea of playing this game at the scheduled time makes this bonkers.

Made this point when the televised fixtures came out. There will be lots of time after the game to have a stroll around but at that point it will be affected by the mood of the game, bit risky for such a big match. 3pm would have been perfect. But that’s not the age in which we live. The least important people on a match day are the ones who go through the turnstile, despite all the facilities (moneymakers) they offer.

Yes, but in reality most fans just want to get home after any game. What makes me laugh is that Spurs will be keeping the bars open for a few hours after the game in the hope people want to stand in the concourse drinking very overpriced warm beer instead of going to the pub

It’s not any game. It’s the first. Barring test events. Result dependant, it’s the place to be that day. As I said to the wife, there will be other wedding anniversaries. There won’t be any more first games.

Didn’t quite catch her response.

If it was at 3 o'clock we'd be leaving at 5 o'clock so as it's at Half past twelve we'll have two and a half hours until 5 o'clock giving us lots of time to explore our brand spanking new stadium, personally I'll give up an afternoon in the pub to take it all in, it will be the first time you vist our new stadium for the first time, come on mate where's the romance in your soul?
I'll probably get there well early too.
Plus of course, we'll have wiped the floor with Liverpool so it will feel even better:)

I'll be spending 6 hours in the Beavertown bar working my way down the taps, doing a lap of the stadium with each pint taking it all in. I can't wait.

Personally, I'm not an alcoholic, so I can go to a match without getting loaded first.

I don't get loaded, but would never attend a game without a few beers first. I see pub time on a match day equally as important as the match it's self. In actual fact, soaking up the pre match atmosphere and having some banter with other supporters in the pub is arguably more fun than the game. If it were just the game I was interested in I would watch it on TV instead. On that point, with the stadium almost twice the size as the old one, they better build some new pubs :)

The club want you to do that in their brand spanking new bars though, so regardless of kick off time they will be doing all they can to get people through the turnstiles early.

I agree with you on the original point of the early kick off not being great for a first game with all of the logistical issues that I am sure will come with it, just have to hope the test events are really good.

There will be people happy to drink in the stadium prior to match as the pubs are going to be very full. This is another reason why the early kick off is crazy. I know it is Sky's decision, but I am sure Levy could have convinced them otherwise. Drinking in the stadium afterwards just isn't going to happen. It is totally contrary to our culture, and who wants to pay inflated prices for warm beer anyway. Come the winter and the dark nights set in, Tottenham becomes a very dangerous place to be when there aren't thousands of other people about.

I just hope all those that insist on having a skinfull before the match aren't the same ones that spend most of the match going back and forth to the toilets (and smoking when you're in there)

Two discussions going here now. The Liverpool kick off time and general kick off times. Either way, if you have time for a few beers, and unlike @TottenhamMattSpur you can handle them without turning into an American, the ground is there and is offering to entertain you outside match time. Drink, Food, Music and Entertainment in London. This isn’t a new thing, but maybe is is at this level in Tottenham which will hopefully help the local community and allow you to safely find passage out of the area without turning into Grandpa Simpson.

Brits always have and always pay inflated prices for warm swill beer.

Tottenham isn't dangerous, if you're not an idiot.

This is also a time where the club sees an opportunity to change the culture of my generation and younger fans and with intelligent pricing strategies they'll do it They're not bothered about people of your generation because its ability to spend money diminishes in the short to medium term.

.

I wouldn't say always. I've been of a legal age for around 20 years and have seen prices go from under £2 a pint to £5+
I'm not an economist but I'd guess that increase is more than wages and inflation.
I earn more money now than in my 20's but drink less as i thibk its an awful waste of money now.

Going back to the original topic, I'd say the early kick off isn't s bad thing. You could hang around the stadium for a few hours post match. @Monkey Bastard Hands - fancy meeting for a pint of hipster shit after the game?

(For those thinking I'm a hypocrite, we've known each other many years and he left the UK sometime ago. Theres a time and a place..)

You post like a millennial. What the fuck have you done with the last twenty years? Clearly not attempting to destroy your liver like a normal person.

I freely admit I missed the best part of my life buried in debt and mostly stuck indoors)

And now those days are behind me, I'm married, with a child and mostly stuck indoors or doing what the wife wants to do.
Apart from match days!
