I'm gonna miss watching him play in the Prem TBH, although it might help us which is good.. Truly brilliant footballer, IMO a genius.

Actually that's from Barca's official website. The reason for the photo shopping is becase Suarez isn't allowed to be involved in such matters due to the bank.

They will not waste the money they got for him like we did with Bale

Only time will tell that. By the end of this season, the concensus may that we actually spend the money fahooking brilliantly (just one step back for two forward - and we did that when we sold Berbatov, too) (y)

I am gutted to see the back of another quality footballer to the spanish league. I enjoyed the fact this particular player was an absolute lunatic that and his skill on the pitch made him thoroughly entertaining.

We have been lucky to watch Bale and suarez single handedly drag their team mates into places they didn't belong I'm not seeing a player who can do this for a prem club next season and frankly the league is poorer for it. :(

I think you are lost - it's the Unpopular Opinion Amnesty thread you'll be wanting :wacky:

I think Liverpool have done very well to get 75m for a player who, despite his obvious abilities, was becoming a bit of a liability.

They were good last season whilst he was suspended, so now they'll be that same team with all of those additional players brought in using the Suarez money.

Worrying times.
I would be shocked if Barca paid £75m.

Lets not forget british press have been reporting the Luiz fee wrong, its €50mill not £50mill according to the continental press

£75mill would make him a more expensive transfer than Ronaldo and Bale when you take in future fee, sponsorship and age

Obviously they'll miss Suarez and yes they will have to incorporate all the new players, but unlike Spurs with Bale they weren't a one man team last season.

I think their new players will have it easier as there is a good existing team there.

I know theres a lot of the summer still to go but I can't see us finishing above them next season.

We weren't a one man team last season, Bale had gone and we were a zero man team

All joking aside, though, we weren't a one man team the season before last, it just felt that way because no-one stepped up to the plate in goal-scoring terms last season. Apart from anyone else, we had just bought Lloris - but he plays defending goals rather than scoring them.

Liverpool weren't a one man team last season, either, but their squad is very light, they had no European football to stretch that squad, any number of things panned out for them, there is nothing to say that either Sturridge or Sterling is going to get the space they got last season, now that Suarez has gone, and, especially, as teams are going to be far more wary of leaving them that space. We faced the same, under Redknapp, when teams figured out they would get mullered if they allowed us wide open spaces behind them.

I maintain, without Suarez and with a declining Gerard, we have a better, deeper squad than they have.

I know there is a lot of the summer to go...but I can absolutely see them having nowhere near as good a season as last, and I absolutely can see us having a much better season than last. I mean, come on TS, we got 69 points while having a cluster-fahook of a season, with our decorators head coaches Mr Botchit and Mr Smeeriton :)

The one-man team thing is such a lazy phrase.

Teams will always miss a player of real quality and I think in the short-term Liverpool will suffer through losing a player of Suarez's ability who was performing at such a high level for them.

If they spend wisely they'll be OK but whether the new signings have Prem experience or not they are not simply going to gel as a team and play to their best straight-away.

I'm very interested to see how Sturridge does now as he thrived under the partnership.

And the player will always miss a team that's playing for him. I was quite impressed by how Bale adapted to RM actually. I'm not sure Suarez could do the same with Messi (every others strikers they brought failed after all)

It wont help us that much they will still finish above us.

If you are so certain, perhaps you could put your house, your car, your wife, your kids...everything on Liverpool finishing above Spurs at the bookies and scan in a copy of the bet so we can know you haven't copped out? :)

Agree. Being able to strengthen the squad is one thing, but it's incredibly difficult to make up for the absence of a rare type of player that can turn a draw into a win. Very interested in seeing how Liverpool spend their cash.

It's also why I feel we didn't do badly with the Bale money, even if the season itself was incredibly disappointing. Under the right coach, players like Capoue, Chiriches, and Chadli could all prove to be valuable squad players (with Capoue a potential first-teamer). I've never doubted Soldado's talent, but he needs to be used correctly. Paulinho was the biggest disappointment, and I doubt he'll raise his game next season.

The key to last summer's spending was landing Eriksen and Lamela. Eriksen proved that he really is a special player, and one that could potentially become a true great. There's still a big question mark over Lamela, but for me he has the potential to become a major star, and with a fellow countryman in charge I'm hoping we'll all see why.

I won't be writing off Liverpool's signings after one season, and it's daft to suggest that anyone should do the same to the players we brought in a year ago.

Why the hell would I want to do that?

Look, I made the post so exaggeratedly over the top to highlight how exaggeratedly over the top your post was. If you had said you fear Liverpool will be stronger for this and finish above us I wouldn't have made comment. If you had said if were to be offered a direct bet between us and them, you would back them, I wouldn't have made that post. But the fact is, you said it as though you were sitting looking into your crystal ball, as we speak. You weren't - it is impossible for you to have a degree of absolute certainty. If it were, you would wager your house, your car, your wife, your kids, your life and everything you had, because you would know you couldn't lose. But you won't do that, so you won't back up your assertion that you are certain that they will finish above us. So, perhaps the lesson is for you to learn to speak with just a little moderation.

And jsut to be clear about this: I haven't anywhere said that I am certain that we will finish above Liverpool. I have said I don't see anything to say that they have definitively spent their money with any certitude of wisdom. I have said they will miss Suarez massively, that Gerard is coming to a termination point, that a huge number of factors all combined to their advantage, that often their results were much better than their performances and this gave them a morale boost. But I have never, anywhere, said either that they will finish outside of the top four or that they will finish below us. I have said I don't think they will have such a good season next season. I have said I think we will have a better season, next season. I have said that I believe we spent our money last summer much better than is being made out. I have said we have an excellent young squad - with a couple of omissions. I have said we have a great youth set-up, and great youth personnel and I am excited for the future, from that. But nowhere have I said either that I have certitude that we will finish above Liverpool, or that we will finish in the top four. Apart from anything, I would wait to see the rest of the transfer dealings, and even then I would be cautious because we have seen Brendan Rodgers get a Liverpool team playing, but we haven't seen how our lot will adapt to Pochettino.

But that is the whole point: I was highlighting the hyperbole of your post, and you made another hyperbolic post. Ssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

The only bet I would even consider is maybe putting a five on us finishing in the top four, and as the odds for that, last I looked were veering to 9 - 2 to 5 - 1, I might consider laying that with you - but you would have to offer me considerably better odds than that, otherwise I would be well advised sticking with the bookies. Or, you could just get the point and moderate your claims to omniscience (y)
