Oh this Otani thing is laughable. Small market and west coast so its closer to home and feels like home. So like maybe stay in Japan then? Im not even upset about not coming to the Yankees. It’s just a needless charade he’s putting on now though. Dodgers are the token big market. Cubs are the token non west coast. Rangers are uhhh, idk, no chance in hell. Giants are a slight possibility but the Mariners are the obvious pick here. Closest to home, small market, west coast and big Japanease population. I dont get why you just dont sign already and end this charade?
Anyway, Boone’s official. Huge risk but could also be a huge reward too. I love keeping Rothschild on as pitching coach. Our pitching was great last year. Have to keep CC now. I’d put him on the Pettitte contract(essentially a rolling 1 year contract). My pipe dream is looking into getting Machado a year early if Baltimore’s price isnt nuts seeing as he likely wont resign there anyway and i think we’d be favorite to sign him.
Yankees and Phillies are a bit similar here. They both have hired younger managers with zero managerial experience. Also, because the Phillies have an enormous amount of money with a very small payroll, they will be looking to make a huge investment in FA after next season. I'm thinking that the Yankees get either Harper or Machado, with the Phillies getting the other. I'm going to guess that Harper ops for the Yankees, and the Phillies get Machado. I could see the O's trying to trade Machado, if they feel that they would not be able to resign him.
As for Otani, the Phillies had a zero percent chance of signing him, so I kind of want him to go to the Mariners. That way he can DH when he isn't pitching. I'm hoping the Phillies signs some of the international prospects that Atlanta had to let go.
