Pretty sure that them being owned and backed by the government is a grey area. You may well be right but I don't think what you're saying is 100% fact.
They are run by sovereign wealth. Which is exactly what the Etihad is so what’s the difference ?

the difference is I know both banks, and i have accounts in both banks. and i know people who are working pretty high up in those banks (especially in OCBC).

the main difference is both bank's have shareholders who are tied to the government (under Temasek Holdings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temasek_Holdings and anything that has "Lee" in it). It means any advertising have to go through alot of red tape. They ain't coming anywhere close to what Levy wants.

i won't say its impossible. but highly, highly unlikely.

our banking sector over here is known for its security and its handling of loans. not for having huge sums of money investing in a market already saturated.

The only company from Singapore which has the chance of sponsoring a stadium would be Singapore Airlines. No one else has the capital and marketing budget to sponsor a stadium

We can't compare banks from oil-rich countries to one with ZERO natural resources. A few years ago our banks had to merge just to stay competitive.

you guys can disagree all you want, but u can ask any Singaporean if they think a company here will spend 20M of its marketing budget on a stadium. heck, that's actually $35M in our currency. and they don't get anything back from it. SIA sponsors the F1 night race, but they get some tax exemptions because it's in part of building the countries attractiveness to tourist. they get nothing back since its their own name, not the country's

and if u talk about sovereign wealth fund... the biggest one we have is GIC, which stands for the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. so... nuff said on that.

It ain't happening. we do not have the assets to do it. sorry to disappoint you.

@Armstrong_11 you shoot down the banks because they’re part owned by Temasek Holdings but then suggest Singapore Airlines who are owned by, you guessed it, Temasek Holdings. You’d probably argue that all 3 are not likely but you can’t paint the banks as a no because of the Temasek ownership but then suggest SA.

Personally I think they’re (Temasek Holdings) more likely to be a buyer for the club rather than a stadium sponsor but that’s another subject completely.

Like I said. the only reason SIA would want to sponsor is that they actually have a reason to. at least it will be reaching a part of their target audience. how many people in the UK will ever open an account with DBS or OCBC? or even have one of their credit cards? Unless they plan to do business in South East Asia, and that doesn't include Japan or China.

Agree although how many people would take insurance from aia?

Gotta agree with u there. But AIA is pushing into Asia, and is one of the bigger issuance comapnies in the region. DBS doesn't have the assets of other bigger players Asia. I would be more plausible if it was a China bank.

The reason we are playing in Singapore this year is...

1. ICC has a contract to host the event in Singapore.
2. Tottenham has been invited to compete in the ICC.

I was just a matter of time (that's what I told myself anyway)

I have absolutely no idea on any of this. Thanks for all the information.

Given how long we have had to sort naming right, is there a possibility it may be announced after the last test event today?

The risk for the sponsor has always been the reputational risk associated with continued delays. After today, we can guarantee there are no further delays and the first official game will be on Wednesday.

I’m not sure if that gives the club enough time to get their branding up across the stadium but you would of thought it possible. Even if they announced it on Monday and the branding was up in time for the champions league game where it will have the most exposure.

If the above is not the case and we still don’t have a sponsor, then I don’t think that particular issue has been handled at all well.

You cannot use the sponsor name in the CL....
But you are right - there will be peak interest in the ground over the next few weeks, and a potential sponsor would surely want to take advantage. But none have turned up.

i suspect they will wait until the Summer even if they have something agreed already, big new stadium, big new season big new sponsor with all the razzamatazz I think that's far more likely.

If levy has his way it will be after the window shuts also, so he doesn't have to pay over the odds for the extra cash we would have! ...if we sign anyone that is.

He would only have to point to our £637m debt.

They are expanding at a great rate and are now one of the leading life insurance companies in the world. Writing tons of business in Aus and NZ at the moment. Push into Europe can't be too far away.

Think you missed my point. I was replying to a post that ruled out asian banks because it was unlikely the average uk consumer would use them. I was making the point that the average uk consumer probably don't use aia for insurance.

Surely with the great reviews and positivity surrounding the stadium Levy has been getting some phone calls from interested parties. A bidding war would be very nice indeed.

Potential sponsors will be looking to see if we finish in the CL, or not, for next season. So I wouldn't expect anything confirmed until well into the summer.

That said, if we get past City in the away leg next week we'll be in the semi-finals (and then possibly a final), which would give our profile a boost!

It’ll be a ten year deal so one year’s CL won’t make that much difference I would think.

If a company is 50/50 on doing it being in the cl for the 4th year on the trott might edge it rather than us being in the europa. Perception of where the club is could be key.

Any naming rights investor is going to know that there are six legitimate teams looking. to qualify for the Champions League each season now, so it’s really not a given that we’ll be there every year.
