I’d quite like it to be Facebook in the hope that Arsenal fans stop using it in protest... would instantly make Facebook 75% more enjoyable.

If they named it ‘The Facebook Fuck Off Liverpool Fans stadium’ then that’s the extra 25% sorted.

Off Topic Fun fact: the laboratory model in ant man was actually the same model as the school for ants in Zoolander.

On Topic - Google would be a very strong sponsor. The Stadia brand is still very much a gamble for them and isn't making much traction so I could see how this kind of linkup might make sense to them.

Makes a hell lot of sense for the Stadia brand.

The Googledome

Ironic that it’s the only stadium I know* which you don’t have to use Google to find from public transport stations.

(*slight exaggeration for comic effect, OK?)

If they stay bullish. If they rest on their laurels then someone will have a better product and they will fall. Some would argue firefox is superior. The chinese will be pushing their own brands.

In business nothing is static. It takes enormous effort to stay top of the hill.
Yup! Blackberry a good example. Very innovative in the launch of Smart phones, sat on their laurels and was then overtaken by Apple and Android. When they realised and tried to catch up it was too late as both iPhone and Galaxy had captured the market.

And don't forget BBM which I believe shut down just about a week ago...

Whilst the news may be coming “Soon”, I think that’s extra important. Surely we’d want to complete our big buys beforehand so that the price doesn’t suddenly carry a windfall premium?

I do have a feeling it’s not gonna be a bog standard Naming rights. Absolutely no idea how it will be structured but feeling it will be like nothing we’ve seen before.

It's just sort of the opposite of what the likes of Google or Facebook want to do at the moment. They want to quietly increase their scope and influence without coming across like they are these ever-increasing behemoths that threaten the very fabric of our society. (Ron Howard narrator: "They are." )
Disagree with this. Sponsorship is as much about PR as it is marketing.

Think about how many times you've heard the new stadium be referred to as the 'best stadium in the world' since its opening.

Now think about how appealing it would be for such companies to have their brands attached to something with such prestige. Every second week (and every home CL game) 100s of millions of people worldwide would be hearing 'Google/Facebook Stadium is the best in the world.' That does a lot for a brand's reputation.

As someone who is hugely sceptical about Google Stadia, this reeks of Arsenal’s Dreamcast sponsorship

But what are they known for? Search, right? What are they less known for? Chromebook, Pixel, ambient/voice services, cloud SaaS, PaaS and IaaS... etc. So, in that respect, I don't think it would hurt or diminish their brand. It would likely help drive increased awareness of products and services not called Search.

That all being said... I do have a hard time imagining them delving into something like this. Not sure it's their normal M/O.

Agree. They’ve never sponsored a stadium, ever. If they wanted to do all that tech testing, they could have been doing it in the NFL for years. Sony and Huawei have. Even EA has a deal with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS. Why now, why here?

I guess Stadia could make a PR exercise interesting but are Google committed to it for long enough to make it worthwhile? Google is infamous for dumping things when they don’t work and the Stadia reveal was awful. Xbox looking like they’ll blow them out of the water, so what if no one gets it? Does it get renamed?

The idea that Google need the PR is making me giggle a lot though. So Google is not famous for YouTube or Android then? Or Google Home or Google Maps? Or Google Earth or Google Docs? This idea that people only know Google for search is ridiculous

Also it’s just called Stadia. Not Google Stadia. They’re purposefully not branding it with Google as it’s supposed to plug in to YouTube, also not branded Google. So not sure why it would be named Google for PR purposes. The Stadia Stadium? Bring on the e-gaming!

Levy had a meeting last week with HSBC, cant remember if one of our loans are already with them?

Yes I think they are one of the banks providing money. Found this comment online:

“The club had initially announced in May 2017 a £400m arrangement with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and HSBC, which was due to last for five years. But in Friday’s statement Tottenham confirmed that the facility is now worth “up to £637m”, representing an increase of £237m or 59% on the initial £400m.”

And people rated my post optimistic when I said levy would love £30 million a year for naming rights. The figure of £637m is why!

Not to mention the NFL games (2x per annum plus longshot potential of a franchise team), Rugby, Boxing, concerts etc. PR potential reach is massive.

No other outdoor venue can do what we can do with the retractable pitch and be so flexible all year round. Wembley, OS etc have to block book the summer for gigs and lay down plastic covering which ends up killing the pitch. In theory we could play Saturday, host NFL sunday, have gigs Tues/Weds/Thurs (pending stage set up) and then play a PL game on the following Sat or Sun. The flexibility will eventually see so much extra activity at the stadium.. not to mention the amount of concessions we'll make!

Agree with this, Levy likes to do things differently and is great at coming up with innovative ideas.

You are thinking what google is today. They will be looking at where they will be in 5 years time. Twitch has cut into youtube with a lot of streamers treating youtube as an afterthought. Android will be challenged seriously by the chinese in the coming years. I don't know whether they are interested in sponsoring the stadium but it will have reach across asia, who are massive fans of the premier league.

Again i don't know if they will. We've had loads of rumours of naming rights over the last year or so that haven't gone anywhere.
