The problem the Heat have that they can only trade away draft picks and I don't don't know how many they have. Free agent centres they are sort of left with Shaq and if they want to get past Orlando I think they are gonna need a big man to deal with Howard and and the Lakers with Gasol and Bynum are gonna destroy Bosh if he is on his own

Well they have missed out on Fisher, but they have completed deals for Miller, Haslem and now Ilgauskas. All very useful players. Ilgauskas gives them a C, all be it not a powerful defensive one but one with good touch around the basket, but at 7'3 he still gets rebounds, blocked shots as well as being clever around the basket. This is a guy who is the leader in rebounds and blocked shots for the Cavs. By himself maybe not the best for defending against bigs, but combined with Bosh it should work well. He has agreed to play for the veterans minimum, but that is a slightly better calibre of player than most expected they would get.

What may go unnoticed but I think is going to be crucial to the Heat is that so far all the guys in the team have strong friendships. Obviously the big 3 have all gone on record as being great friends and wanting to play together since being together with team US. Wade describes Haslem as a brother, 'Mr Miami' and have played together for 7 years. Haslem and Mike Miller go back even further back to college ball. Haslem said that as soon as Miller, 'his boy' signed it was inevitable that he would also sign. Z has played with Lebron for 7 years and LeBron knows he can trust him.

This team, all be it new, knows each others games and personalities inside out already. They are going to have a great team spirit and some of the basketball is going to be pretty stunning.

On another note, I think Jefferson to Utah is a massive trade for the Jazz. Yes they shipped out Boozer but I think Jefferson has a lot more potential to dominate the NBA for years to come if he can stay injury free. This doesn't shine a bright light on Millsap though, must mean Sloan doesn't trust him as starting PF or maybe he likes him coming off the bench as the 6th man?

Bump!

Has anybody else been following the NBA this season? After living in Illinois for a year, I became a Bulls fan and its been a great season. Derrick Rose is amazing.

Here how the playoffs line up-

Eastern Conference.

(1) Chicago vs (8) Indiana
(4) Orlando vs (5) Atlanta
(3) Boston vs (6) New York
(2) Miami vs (7) Philadelphia

Western Conference

(1) San Antonio vs (8) Memphis
(4) Oklahoma City vs (5) Denver
(3) Dallas vs (6) Portland
(2) L.A Lakers vs (7) New Orleans

I've been following it all year. Rose is definitely the MVP pick, he has been instrumental over and over for the Bulls and they have a really well balanced side which cannot be said for some of the other major teams. LeBron is still the best player but I think the lack of a big man is going to stop the Heat winning it all.

It is wide open though, I couldn't pick right now who will win it.

Close call for the Bulls last night, I missed the final quarter, but they were down by quite a bit before I left. But the playoffs are different compared to the regular season, so I can't really pick, but I think Rose can lead the Bulls to victory. He's untouchable ATM.

Very disappointing season for the Suns, breaking up last seasons squad was silly, trading away out best scorer and replacing him with VC was silly. Trading for Barbosa for Hedo was silly and Robin Lopez' lack of progression is very annoying.

On the plus side Gortat has played well and should be the starting C next season. We need to put VC's $16m to better use in the off season and hopefully Nash will still be with us but I expect him to be traded.

How do you go from being two games away from the NBA Finals to not making the playoffs the following season. If only J Rich boxed out, if only. I'll stop there, I'm still hurting.

The next live games on ESPN won't be until Thursday night.

Just like last year, regular season Baseball (new season is under way) is being prioritized over the NBA playoffs, no highlights are currently scheduled either. Not good enough.

D Rose for MVP.

So Memphis pull the shock of the round by throwing out San Antonio Spurs 99-91 in Game 6. Zach Randolph was an absolute beast, especially in the 4th quarter where he scored 16 points and in the end finished with a total of 31 pts and 11 rebounds. Nobody could stop him but the whole team deserves credit as they were really determined to win from the start of this series

Only the 4th time in the history of the NBA that the 8th seed has defeated the 1st so this is pretty epic stuff

That was a huge surprise, I don't think anybody expected that. I'm looking forward to the Heat and Celtics playoffs.

Bulls to win!

The Spurs losing wasn't that big of a surprise. They had players stuggling with injuries and they had been pretty terrible in the closing weeks of the regular season.

Lakers 2-0 down after 2 home games against the perennial bottle job Dallas Mavs...now that is a little surprising.

Can't see the Lakers coming back from this, the match ups favour Dallas big time.

They didn't. 4-0 to the Mavericks. I just finished watching Celtics@Heat. Heat coming back in the final quater by I think 5 or 7 points to win 97-87. They win the series 4-1. Hopefully it's the Bulls in the Conference final.

Bynum should have got a 10 game suspension, its not the first time he's done that this season.

12 point lead in the final quater with 3:14 remaining on the clock. It was incredible how the Bulls messed it up. Pretty annoyed. Heat win the series 4-1 and the Eastern Conference. And Dallas won the Western.
