Newcastle A
Fulham Wembley
UTD A
Watford A
Pool H

I have to admit that I am very concerned with our start with the potential fallout from the shambles of the transfer window. Kane is a slow starter, Son will be missing, we have a number of injuries and players late back from the W/C.

Apart from our win last year Newcastle away has always been tough.

Fulham, back in the PL at Wembley.

Poch hasn’t fared well at OT and UTD still have big time players.

Watford our players could be under pressure if we’ve dropped points in the previous games.

Pool in the new place could be a baptism of fire.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we only got 2-5 points. Am I just being overly pessimistic?

11 points from first 5 games works for me. I’d like to think we could beat Liverpool in the first game at new WHL but we’ll have to be on the very top of our game to do it.

Kane isn’t a slow starter. He just doesn’t score while the summer transfer window is open.

All depends how you spin these things. See tomorrow how I’m right.

Newcastle- will be tough there's no denying that
Fulham - have just about about 45 new players so this is where our lack of activity will come in handy as our team will have more synergy.
UTD - I don't expect much there even if we had a great window
Watford - we should beat
Liv - fuck me in the head

I wouldn't be shocked with 10 points tbh but 12 would be a very good return considering the United game and Liv is at the new ground.

It could be 2 points but it could also be 12 or 13. Its a tough start - in fact our first third of the season is very tough when you consider we've only got 5 home games in our first 14 fixtures and of those 5:
3 are against Top 6 rivals; and
1 is at actually at Wembley

However, if we win tomorrow then the whole outlook will be different. Watford isn't easy but I think they'll struggle this season. Fulham have done great business but we're still stronger than them on paper and a lot of their team should need time to settle in/gel. Utd are in better shape than Mourinho makes out but they rather limped through last season and have the same obstacles facing them at the moment that we do (best players returning from WC late).

Liverpool to open the new stadium is as tough a fixture as we could get, but if we win 3 of our first 4 then we'll feel completely differently about that fixture.

What we have in our favour is our players all know exactly what the manager and their team-mates expect of them. No settling in required. Their might be some rust tomorrow (isn't there always on the opening weekend?) but by next week the WC lot should all be ready.

As far as i know yes. Wouldn't be upset if it got postponed tho.

Yeah. All seems on track from the club messaging, and the test events, but literally every article about the new season has journos and pundits saying the stadium looks nowhere near done. Which admittedly it doesn't. I wondered if we had any construction experts on here who have any insider knowledge of putting up massive stadiums as it's really not very long now. :nailbiting:

Oh and…

Newcastle A Draw
Fulham Wembley Win
UTD A Draw
Watford A Win
Pool H Draw

So I reckon 9 points, which would be 1 point more than last season (8). Eight points also happens to be our average for the first five games over the past 10 years.

We've only got more than 10 points from the first 5 games twice in the last decade, so with the World Cup load and the away games, I'd perhaps be realistic.

2017/18 - 8 points
2016/17 - 11 points
2015/16 - 6 points
2014/15 - 7 points
2013/14 - 10 points
2012/13 - 8 points
2011/12 - 9 points
2010/11 - 7 points
2009/10 - 12 points
2008/09 - 2 points

We don’t have to worry about bedding new players in so depending upon the World Cup semi-finalist fitness/sharpness, we could hit the ground running.
I certainly hope so, might quieten a few ex-players in the media

Newcastle A 1-1
Fulham Wembley horrible feeling we'll lose to a sessegnon banger.
UTD A lose 1-0
Watford A 2-0 win
Pool H 2-1 win ...... cant see us losing our first game at the new ground.

Postponed rather than moved to Wembley?
I guess it depends on when we find out it can't be played at home.
Either way the moaning from the Liverpool pundits will be over the top.

Needs to be a good win in convincing style tomorrow.

I fear a lumbering performance where Newcastle snatch a late win, a lot of our players are stood there looking at each other in disbelief and that's the tone of the season set.

We matched up well with them last season, dominating them in 3 of the 4 separate 45 minutes we played.

Far too much being made of this transfer window nonsense.

Got moronic West Ham fans shouting about how they’ll finish above us despite them not possessing a single player who’d get in our first XI! So much noise and hype over it all, the best way to shut everyone up is do the business tomorrow.
