Really hope we have a better season than last season .... (Bears). Very tough opener for us though, can't see anything but a heavy defeat. Not really the start we could do with.

Yeah that first game is really unhelpful in terms of "starting afresh" or whatever you want to call it. For what it's worth, as a Bears fan I'm excited for this season. Although I still don't think we'll finish with a winning record, at least now it's worth watching if only to see how Trubisky develops. Based on preseason, I think it's only a matter of time before he starts the games over Glennon. Whether that's the right thing for his development or not only time will tell, but the fans seem to be overwhelmingly in favour of giving the kid the opportunity to learn on the job rather than just going through the motions with Glennon for the sake of it, so I think unless Glennon comes out all guns blazing and makes a real statement (which he's shown no sign of doing do far) I think the team will bow down to the pressure from the fans eventually.

Vikings game in October at Solider Field, if we are 0-4 by this game which is highly likely!!! Then I guarantee the atmosphere will be hostile if Glennon is the starting QB, fans will be demanding Trubisky.

Not sure he will be ready but if we go 0-4 to begin the season, why not throw him in, can't do any worse. I really want to be excited for this season but we are in such a bad state, I'd be super happy if we could get a good record this year, heck even a 3rd place finish with some exciting wins would be amazing but I just can't see it. Our opening 4 is such a rough start, Bucaneers is the only game I think we stand a chance in the first 4.

If the Bears are smart they'll make Trubisky a third stringer and put him on the scout team. The guy only has one season as a starter in college under his belt so he's going to need time to develop and it would be better for him and the Bears that he does that away from the criticism of the fans and media and away from defenders wanting to hit him. How many QBs has Cleveland drafted and then thrown to the wolves? Roethlisberger, Rivers, and Romo were third string QBs in their first seasons. Big Ben only got his first start due to injuries (plus the risk was mitigated by the fact he was surrounded by Pro-Bowlers and future Hall of Fame players). Let Glennon and Sanchez receive the beatings and endless criticism while the Bears build for the future.

In other news, the Dolphins - Bucs game has been postponed until November when both team have a bye. That means both teams will have to play at least 16 straight weeks without a break.

They could have moved the game somewhere else or play it earlier. Moving the game to the bye week is probably the worst option of the three.

Everyones evacuating already and if they cant get out, then are hunkering down inside so earlier was out of the question. Playing it elsewhere has too many logistical problems associated with it. Plus the whole of the SE is going to be effected by this as the storm is so massive. Also, playing on the bye week is probably the least of the concerns of the 2 teams right now. This storm can be catastrophic to the region.

You're probably right. The only trouble is I don't know how long the Bears will be able to resist the public pressure that's already mounting to start Trubisky. If Glennon gets off to a poor start (which given the schedule and his preseason form, he almost certainly will) then that pressure is going to grow and grow. Given that the coaching staff are already becoming less and less popular, I don't think they'll have the balls to stand up to the public and will probably throw Trubisky in to try and curry favour and buy themselves some time.

It takes a huge amount of co-ordination to put on a NFL game. Security, traffic, vendors and their supplies, stadium staffing, tv/radio crews, the field has to be at a certain quality selling tickets etc.

Very difficult to pick up and just play a game on, at best, 1 week notice in a new city that isn't prepared for an NFL game.

Not sure moving the game would've been popular as they'd lose a home game, along with a lot of money as a result. As for playing the game earlier, I suppose that was a possibility but maybe that's a nightmare at such short notice in terms of all the organization/infrastructure that goes with putting on such a massive event. There's all sorts of things like cleaning, catering, inventory, safety checks, logistics, police/fire/safety organization etc. that all go into it. There's thousands of moving parts, metaphorically speaking, and suddenly having to bring all that forward 3 or 4 days with very little notice is probably an absolute nightmare.

I'm sure it is, but didn't the Giants and Vikings play a game in Detroit on short notice a few years ago? A college game was moved around last week too on short notice.

They wouldn't lose that much money from losing a home game, and Stephen Ross is loaded.

The threat of Hurricane Irma has been there for weeks now and I think they could have had a better contingency plan in place than moving the game to the bye week.

I think delaying the game was the best option with so many fans evacuating and unable to watch. Looking at the size and predicted track of that storm I'm more worried about whether the Dolphins will even have a stadium for week two.
