The only problem I've had doing auctions in the past is that one crazy guy gets AP for all of his cash, leaving the league unbalanced. That was with randoms though, so presumably with you lot it'll be more sensible....

You pays your money, you takes your choices!

I think its definitely brings more skill into the game, plus if we do it with 2 keepers in mind, you're also thinking about next years performance when bidding for players.

Ok, so the draft system automatically selects a player, say Chris Johnson RB.

We all can bid to take him. Whoever bids the most gets him.

Then onto the next player, so on until everyone has filled their roster.

A keeper just means, if you 'win' Chris Johnson, he could be one of the 2 players you choose to keep for the season after too. So future production has some bearing on who, and how much you bid.

Can we keep a player or two from this season?

I had a little look and it seems to work that if you choose to keep 1 player you lose your first round pick, keep 2, you lose your first two picks. A keeper maximum can be set, 1 2 or 3 is prob sensible tho. That way if you're not totally happy with your players from last year, you get a fresh shot at this but The player that selected Chris Johnson last year would be kinda rewarded for that selection by getting to keep him this.

I have seen some leagues where you lose the round where your 'keeper' was picked the previous year, which would be interesting, and seriously rewards good drafting skills. I think the lasy few years i've had AP, Forte and Rice all in round 6 or 7!

just had a go at an auction draft,

pretty tense, but it seems to work well.

Doesn't seem to be as much strategy or planning, just targeting players you like for the year.

since the match against wigan is on Saturday, that means Sunday would be free for you guys right? what about drafting Sunday afternoon your time (would be +7 hrs for me)? 3 or 4 pm would be 10 or 11pm for me so those times could work.

We can't do 3pm because I'm in Baton Rouge so that would be 9am for me. 4-5pm UK time would probably be best for me.

Would the time differences mean that monday evening wouldnt work? I should be around on Sunday afternoon though)

Will we be trying an auction this year?

Or keeping any players from our 09 teams?

Or sticking with what we know best?

I can't do this coming sunday or monday as I'm at my sisters wedding. I'll have to work out how to do an auto draft if its going to be one of those nights.

I'm away till tuesday night. If you want to do it before that's fine. If we do it after I would be up for an auction draft.

exciting times. What's happened to our chairman?

He's taking lessons from Tottenham's chairman. Learning the art of doing things last minute.

I've tentatively set a date for Sunday 4pm just as a place holder for now. Usually Sunday is the best day for the most amount of people. But let's see what people say.

As for an auction, they take ages, and i think are better suited for keeper leagues. We'll see on that one.
