Probably a daft question, but what exactly is it that Butler did to cause him to be benched for the game? All the TV/radio people are pissing me off with their "I know something you don't know" attitude. Whenever they're talking about it, people keep saying it was a "rule violation" but not elaborating, or saying "his alleged behaviour, which I'm not going to get into right now" or saying "If what I've been told is true..." while all looking at each other chuckling because they're all "ITK" or whatever. What has the guy actually done? I heard he arrived a day later than the rest of the team due to illness but surely it can't be that that everyone's being so hush-hush about.
We don't know yet. He's am upcoming free agent and is likely to leave so he'll probably reveal all, but it could have been a discipline thing or it could just have been totally tactical. He was demoted in practice the bye week before the SuperBowl.

Wasn’t meant to come across as me calling t arrogant. I knownlittle to nothing about NFL. I actually half asked in expectancy that someone would explain to me that there is some sort of other competition, or some reason why they would be legitimate “World” champions.

A question based on my own ignorance as opposed to their arrogance!

i get it. I wasnt offended. I can see where some my find it arrogant. It probably is a little arrogant. Baseball for example. Lots of countries have very developed professional leagues. And basketball for that matter. But other than Canada I dont know of any other professional football leagues.

The only way this world champion argument can be settled is if the Eagles play the Toronto Argonauts. Obviously under Canadian rules as it would be fairer and because there is nothing better to watch in sports than confused NFL players trying to work out what those crazy Canadians are doing.

Definitely wasn't tactical. Like I say, the journalists etc. on TV, radio, twitter and so on all keep making smug references to it but in that sort of annoying "I know something you don't know" kind of way that's really winding me up. If they're not allowed to say anything for legal reasons then they shouldn't mention it at all IMO. It's just irritating. I assume it's some sort of controversy otherwise they wouldn't all be so hush-hush about it.

McDaniels announced as Colts new HC earlier today. Now he’s staying with the Patriots. Hahahahaha

I'm guessing he was basically promised the job when Belichick retires.
Probably. The Krafts probabky did everything possible to get him to stay. Especially considering it was the Colts he was going to.

Wont be surprised if Belichick retires now and McDaniels takes over immediately. There were widespread reports that all is not well between him, Brady and Kraft

No it is none of that.

The colts job is nothing without Andrew Luck. He is literally the only reason to go there. Now reports are saying his shoulder is still not right . It probably won't ever be right again honestly. Plus Jim Irsay is the worst owner in the league.

That makes the Colts job the worst in the league. Even worse than the Browns who have some talent and lots of top picks and a devoted fan base

Why wasn't it definitely not tactical?

Anyway, he's released this statement.

Because he was one of their most integral players up until super bowl week and also if it was something like that then why would all the journos be so reluctant to say anything on air/in print? Iwhatever the reason they've been given is, it must be something controversial that they're worried about getting in trouble for reporting

He had a bad season, was sick and sucking it up in practice - so they benched him.

I don't like it, and there may be more to it, but at least in that context, it isn't an atrocious decision.

I never said it was a good decision.

He played something like 98% of their snaps all season until the Superbowl so whether or not you like him he was clearly a key part of the team. Like I say, the way everyone on the radio/tv/papers are talking about it there's something that has gone on behind the scenes that they're all afraid to say on air for fear of getting sued. If he was just left out for tactical reasons then why would they go through this whole charade. Seriously if you watch.listen to any of the sports shows discussing it in the US at the moment it's all like:

  • "So if what I'm hearing is true, does that make the decision to leave him out justified?"
  • "Well Dave, and we have to be careful what we say here, but yes if it's true, and I'm not saying it is, then I would've left him out too"
  • "Listen, I know we can't go into too much detail, but for me the guy still has to play. I don't care what he did or didn't do but it's the superbowl! He has to play even if he did, you know, do what he did. I'm gonna stop talking now before I get into trouble hehehehe"

and so on. It makes for terrible viewing/reading because the whole discussion is reduced to some sort of in-joke among the presenters. There's no way they talk like that if he was just left out for tactical reasons.

I don't care anything about him either way. I'm not a Patriots fan and I haven't watched more than a half of an NFL game in 3-4 years.

You ought to know with Bill Belichick the players don't really matter - the team matters. Bill doesn't care if you ran for 300 yards and four touchdowns last game. Kinda like Pochettino - if you aren't bringing it in practice and if the game plan doesn't suit you, you're not going to play. I have heard on the radio that two different sources in the Patriots organization that were at the practices leading up to the Super Bowl that he wasn't in the game plan and wasn't likely to feature. Yes, he played 98% of the snaps, but according to things I read, that 98% wasn't stellar play, and a lot worse than years past (in a contract year, which is pretty horrible and says a lot about him)- it's not like he was a Pro Bowler or anything.

He showed up a day later than the rest of the team and sick. He didn't do well in practice.

There were rumors that he broke a minor team rule or that he stayed out after curfew, but Butler has denied that. But you're right, there seems to be something more but nobody is saying anything.

I'm American and what you're quoting I haven't heard from any of the radio I've been listening to and I listen to it quite a lot. I don't own a TV so I don't know what they are saying on TV. Everything I've read on the internet has not had that language like "we're not allowed to say anything" or "we have to be careful what we say." I'm not sure where you are getting that from - if you have anything soundbites or articles or footage I'd be interested.

Not american but I live in the US. I'm not a Patriots fan either so also don't really care, I'm more just interested in what he's done and was getting wound up the other day at the way they were reporting it on TV etc. For me, either report it properly or just don't bring it up, rather than this whole bring it up but then say you can't say anything more schtick half of them had going on on monday. I don't have any links or anything because it's just stuff I've heard on the radio while driving and sometimes I flick to the sports channels during commercials etc. so I've only seen snippets of discussions. But I've heard those kind of discussions on ESPN, FS, NBC etc. the day after the game. The team is obviously saying it was performance based and a minor curfew violation or something, but like I say, all the "secrecy" around it makes me suspect that's not the whole story. I guess the whole thing will come out eventually

Russell Wilson, QB for the Seattle Seahawks, has been traded...

Except not in the way you think.
Turns out he also plays baseball and Texas Rangers have traded him to the NY Yankees.

What the actual fuck. I thought you were joking and it was just gonna someone with the same name but it's genuinely him. Supposedly he's been spending his summers playing in the minors since he was drafted by the Rockies in 2010. How random.

In other random Russel Wilson-related news, I've also just learned apparently he's married to that singer Ciara and they got married in Chesire, for some reason. The guy's full of surprises.

Kelce is wearing a Mummers costume, which is absolutely brilliant! And then he sings “No one likes us and we don’t care” at the end.:ROFLMAO:

I grew up about 15 minutes from Center City Philly, and I’ve been beaming with pride all week! A bunch of my childhood friends attended today’s parade, as did my brother and his son, and my older sister and her husband. F’ing incredible!

I'm still in a state of euphoria. That Kelce speech was fantastic! I had a bunch of friends that went, and they had a blast.
