can't see it...he was leading by three at one point and still couldn't get over the line in a major...mickelson was nine shots better than him on the day...reminds me of Faldo v norman in '96 masters
Ah you never know - Darren Clarke was older, and not as good a player as Westwood is when he won.

Westwood is consistent, he's never normally that far away in the majors.

true, but did Clarke have as many mental scars as westwood has of coming up short? I don't think so...in his post round interviews westwood tried to sound bullish and unconcerned, but just like mcilroy, his face told a different story...looked a broken man

I thought that. His face gave it away, this loss has taken everything out of him. It will be hard to come back from this

It's going to hurt Westwood for a while, but he'll get over it, and he'll be up for the PGA. He might need some head help - as per Andy Murray with Ivan Lendl - but he's not shot.

He'll be in contention again.

Next time Lee.

I really hope so Arnold. You could just tell by his face that he felt so awkward trying to be positive in his interview. If anyone is Gold deserves a major it is him. I don't think anyone has come so close so many times.

He's going to feel pretty low directly after - using Murray as an example again, remember his on court effort after losing to Federer in last year's Wimbledon final for his 4th final loss in a row. Now he holds 2 major titles plus the Olympics.

Westwood for the PGA!

I understand that and I really hope you are right. I would love nothing more than for Lee to come out fighting for the PGA to prove all of his doubters wrong. I certainly don't think he is a choker, there is just a mental side to getting over that hurdle. I wonder if there is an equivilent in the golfing world to Ivan Lendl?
