My Dad passed away 17 days ago, he wasn't a Spurs fan but he was responsible for me being one.

We came over from Ireland in the 1950'ss to North London. It was about 1965 when my old man took me
to Highbury which was the nearest club to our home. I didn't like it at all and ended up going up the old A10
to WHL, hundreds of times in fact.

Dad was cremated in Watford this week and there will be something going on in New Ross, Wexford in the near future.

I know your pain but I hope like me you can remember all those good times in life and things you did together.

My father Jimmy a lifelong Spurs fan of 68 years has just died. He truly loved this football club. Half way through July we found out he had a brain tumour which was cancerous. We did not tell him how bad it was just that they had found a mass on his brain and it was not going to get any better. Although this shocked him the one thing that kept him going was that I told him I would drive him to London from Ireland to go to the first game at the new stadium. He told everyone about this and it really kept him going even though I knew we had no chance but having him cling to that hope was enough for him and me. Everyday going to see him he would ask me to check Spurs Community to see if we had signed any new players that he would able to watch at the new stadium. We will at some stage this season when we can get tickets make that journey for him and watch his and my beloved Tottenham Hotspur. Another Yiddo passes away. R.I.P JIMMY HUGHES. Let's hope the lads can put on a performance for him today and win before we bury him on Monday. COYS
All the moaning about not signing players is totally insignificant compared to losing a loved one in context of things football really isn't important

Sorry for your loss. My brother died of a brain tumour at 62, so I have some understanding of what you've gone through. A shame he didn't make the new stadium though.

Very sorry for your loss. As someone for whom my Spurs support is as much a bonding mechanism with my father as it is sheer tribal sports fanaticism, reading your post made me well up. My heartfelt best to you and any family members left without a loved one at this time.

My old man died last week after a tortuous battle against the dreaded C. He'd been going to Spurs every week since 1948. Saw Arthur Rowe, Bill Nick, every game in 1966. Fitting that the last game he could make it to was the last ever at WHL. I've been going every week with him since I was 6, football days are going to be very strange without him.

Condolences to you all. I can empathise as it was the same for me. My Dad first took me to WHL and I used to ring him after every game to give him a report. When he died, it was so hard not calling him.
Also I lost a friend to pancreatic cancer in May. He was a lifelong fan too and it's sad he didn't get to go to the new stadium. I'll think of all of these people, and more when I go there.

So sorry for your loss @jimmyh. My dad hadn't been to a game since the sixties until I finally got him to come along at Christmas 2007 for the Reading game. Ten goals later he was buzzing. Cherish those memories mate.

Sorry for your loss

I lost my dad in 2013. Took his ashes with me back to the UK and spread them in various places most notably WHL and the new training ground.

Seems that ever since I've done that the club has gone in the right direction. Hopefully your dad can have a similar effect on the club!
