I would be inclined to put Jan and Dembele into the category above based on Jan being a great player and servant and very trouble-free. Dembele deserves it but its hard to justify based on injury concern. Maybe a short term contract increase and bump him up.

Sissoko is where your theory is flawed as he is already on 90k by all accounts in the news..I very much doubt you could give footballers a pay cut whilst they are at the same club. If you're saying he doesnt deserve more than 50k most people would agree but theres no way you would be able to move him into a lower category without moving him out of the club completely..(here's hoping)!

Then he needs to be sold

I highly doubt son will have to do military service, it makes no sense for South Korea to make their national superstar waste two years of an already short career fucking around at an army base or something.

If he did it at 28, which is when he would if he had to, then he'd miss the 2022 World Cup which would be stupid and in no way beneficial for South Korea.

They'll find some way to excuse him even if they don't win the Asian games

EDIT- you actually have until you're 35 so it's not a problem at all

Tottenham 'could lose
Son Heung-min for TWO years' to South Korean Army as part of mandatory military service

The 25-year-old must complete 21 months of military service before he turns 28 - which would mean missing the 2019-20 and 2020-21

Apparently the clubs average weekly wage bill for first team squad is 60k and the PL average is 50k

I'd say that average figure is pulled up massively by United, City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. We pay, as a club, the 12th highest in Europe.

ali z on toby: Gone past money anyway turned down 130 k a week
Talks been going on for over a year, lot of game playing by Toby's side.
Jan signing a new deal i heard.
Most will sign new deals, rose as i understand not getting offered one and Dembele will sign.

on eriksen: One of the names I was told was likely.

Let's hope that comes off. Interesting no talk of Lamela as would have thought he'd be eligible for a new deal soon?

One year extension on Vorm's contract has been activated, keeping him with us until end of next season.

Updated with Kane, Vorn, Winks and KWP, I didn't add any youth extensions.

So can anyone shed any light on the current contract situation re. the following players. It seems strange for Levy to get to this stage with some players, letting them go for free rather than selling and getting some money for them....

Toby - seems we offered good terms but he played silly buggers and now both sides are happy to let him go for free at the end of this season? Seems strange we wouldn’t try to sell this summer and get a fee

Rose - seems we’ve been trying for a while to get rid of him as we don’t want to offer him a new contract. Why?? He’s only 29 and at his peak

Vertonghen - he’s only got one year left on his contract. Why have we not offered him another one yet? Is this why he seems to have fallen out with Poch?

Eriksen - seems we’re in a pretty tricky position here as we want him to sign a new contract but he is happy to run down his deal in the hope that Real Madrid come in for him. This is the only situation which I kind of understand as it’s not really the club’s fault, as annoying as it is.

Does that sum things up well? I just don’t understand how we have got to this point. Seems that the uncertainty around these 4 players is what Poch means by the squad is ‘unsettled’

Obviously I don't know any more than you do, but my assumption on Toby is that if we sold him this summer it wouldn't have been for much money anyway and Levy knew we wouldn't be able to get a replacement in given that we already were planning to spend big on Ndombele and Lo Celso, so they've decided to have him for an extra year than get 25m and be left with nobody.

Herc seemed to suggest we were hopeful Toby would sign a new contract

That would be great!

My feeling is that nobody else has come in for him because he’s made it clear that he wants to end his career at Ajax, so anybody looking at him would get him for 2 years max. Therefore not a long term option. Maybe why Utd went for Maguire instead.

2020 Eriksen, Toby, Jan, Lo Celso
2021 Dier Sissoko Rose

We need above players either extending or selling

Dier being only 25 now becomes a worry. We could have sold him for 50m at one point and yet he can go for nothing

I'm getting concerned from a financial point of view about Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld. If all left at the same time for free, what would be the cost of hiring two new CBs who could fill the void after our best CBs, and one AM who as a minimum could feature as a rotation option straight away. We would easily be looking at 180M + pounds. Where those funds supposed to come from?
