I just feel we need someone with experience. Pocchetino has some good qualitities, but I'd much rather have someone who has managed a squad playing twice a week most of the year, not once; who has won titles repeatedly not just had one good year in the PL; and who has a reputation that would attract and retain better players.
That for me, means it has to be Benitez or FDB. Personally, I'd prefer Benitez, but I think FDB will do well.
Pochettino needs to prove his calibre over a few more seasons imo, as Martinez is having to, but both will no doubt move to bigger clubs if they continue over the longer term to be successful.
Potential is one thing, but experience is what Spurs need right now imo.

Exactly

I can just imagine Poch strolling into the dressing room and Adebayor or Vertonghen saying "fuck you Poch, what have you won" etc

We need someone like Benitez

Nothing against Poch but i see rinse and repeat here, sacked by xmas 2015

I think he could be a good appointment. He's taken a style of pressing and possession based football with Espanyol and then implemented it very effectively with Southampton. He's shown a great faith in youngsters, tactical flexibility and the ability to create a happy harmonised squad.

I can clearly see our squad playing like his Southampton team but better. He's also Argentinian which should help with Lamela who could be our (much better) equivalent to Jay Rodriguez.

My main concern was that if you believe the ITK rumblings than our squad is going to need to really get on board with the new coach. Whilst Pochettino did show he was able to do this post-Adkins I think we might be better in this respect going with FDB. The downside to FDB is that his style may not be as good in the Premier League.

I'd be happy with either though

Southampton do play some lovely football. Also it feels like December all over again, our options seem to be running out by the day.

Not winning anything didn't really stop the players respecting Rodgers at Liverpool....

I don't want him very much, better than Sherwood but I don't see much future with him. I could be wrong, I just don't see it.

He is a risk, but so was Martinez and Rodgers.

After we missed out on those two I am worried that if we pass up this opportunity we could be missing out again.

He turned Southampton from relegation candidates to a European challenge in a year.

Premiership proven, works well with a dof, and comes across as quite likeable and classy in his interviews.

Call me crazy, but I would actually prefer him to fdb.

I am more interested in a manager who can develop young talents than one who can pacify spoilt prima donnas.

i don't understand the animosity towards poch potentially getting the job, it's as if he'd be better received on here if he were managing abroad still - see tuchel having more votes than poch in the other thread. it seems we don't do familiarity here at spurs, we want to take a stab in the dark at an unknown. i want benitez but i'd be happy with poch, i still don't see what is making everyone wet their pants at de boer, i'll take the manager who is currently doing a good job in the premier league thanks. acronymanagers winning one team leagues seems to be in vogue though.

...yes i think familiarity with the PL is an important part of any managers CV. I like him tactically. His teams press and can be very direct. Something we have lacked.

No no no no no, under any other circumstance, i wouldn't mind Poch, but when you have a manager like FDB hitching his skirt to us at every opportune moment, you do not ignore it.

If we appoint Poch over FDB, i will be absolutely disgusted.

Not my first choice, but certainly a viable option. The flâneur in me is very attracted to his style of football, and I think he'll be able to implement that quicker than FDB, but I think FDB will be better in the long term.

Agree. If our next manager has no prem experience it will be a big mistake IMO. I'm not over keen on Poch but I wouldn't be gutted. Willing to back whoever the next manager is aslong as it not Tim!

FDB is my first choice, but I'd be happy enough with Pochettino. However, my one concern with him was the way he simply tossed away Southampton's FA Cup match up at Sunderland by playing a weakened side. Like someone said before, how will he handle two games a week for the whole season
