If he is going to be our new manager or at least have an interview lets back him now by at least giving him his own thread for discussion, so I hope we do back him and don't throw our toys out of the pram because we didn't get FDB as it's obvious he is general favourite

I don't want him very much, better than Sherwood but I don't see much future with him. I could be wrong, I just don't see it.

Can he speak English though? He doesn't in his interviews. Last time we had a manager that didn't speak English we had 2 points from 8 games....

Not to say he doesn't look like a good manager. He's done well so far with Southampton.

He speaks English fine, he doesnt speak it in interviews as he doesnt want the press putting words in his mouth.

Can we sticky this? everyday someone asks the same thing.

I'd actually be pretty excited with Pochettino. Granted he is a bit of an unknown quantity, but so is FDB. And I think he's improved many of the Southampton players and I like their style of play in its balance between possession and directness (that is obviously needed to break down stubborn defenses). I think his style is a bit more direct than FDB's, which is a good thing in my mind.

Yes this is repeatedly asked and answered.

Though he does have to speak English eventually. If he came here I would hope that he speaks English well enough in the first season to do press conferences/interviews in English.

I just feel we need someone with experience. Pocchetino has some good qualitities, but I'd much rather have someone who has managed a squad playing twice a week most of the year, not once; who has won titles repeatedly not just had one good year in the PL; and who has a reputation that would attract and retain better players.
That for me, means it has to be Benitez or FDB. Personally, I'd prefer Benitez, but I think FDB will do well.
Pochettino needs to prove his calibre over a few more seasons imo, as Martinez is having to, but both will no doubt move to bigger clubs if they continue over the longer term to be successful.
Potential is one thing, but experience is what Spurs need right now imo.

I am not against him...but its one thing managing a team like Espanyol and Soton who are happy finishing mid-table and its different managing the monster that is THFC which demands great football, CL qualification whilst not being able to buy who you want and at the same time trying not to upset DL.

This is one of the toughest jobs in football....good luck whoever takes it, but that is why we really needed a LVG type, someone who would have come in and really demanded respect and took NO shit.

On a postive note...whoever follows Tim will be lucky, the opposite of Moyes following Fergie.

I agree with what most of you say, I'd much rather FDB as he has a great reputation, and players like vertonghen and loris will want to stay, but I just wNt every one to back and get behind who ever we get, both will have a project and wNt us to play an exciting brand of football

This is what I wrote a couple of weeks back...

He's getting the absolute maximum out of the Southampton squad whilst they're playing some of the best football in the prem this season.

Not only that but he has managed to coach a clearly definiable style of play in little over a season and half with very minimal squad changes. A squad that under Atkins looked, at the very least, set for a relegation battle.

His philosophy and coaching credentials are tried and tested in the prem, he is multi-lingual, promotes youth, has worked successfully in a DOF structure, knows the prem, knows our squad, presumably holds Lamela in high regard(being a fellow countryman...)...I could go on....

From the available and realistic candidates he absolutely my number one choice. I can see the sense in Benitez but the romantic in me will opt for the coach who wants to play football with flair.

Every manager is a gamble but he just seems the perfect fit for how we are trying to move forward. The clincher for me though, is the fact his credentials are proven in the prem. This is what he has over FdB, Tuchel etc... who can't offer any guarantees that their philosophies will adapt to the league.

I agree....and i will get behind whoever we appoint, like i have since the days of Keith Burkinshaw when i started going to the lane the year we got relegated.

Sherwood is the first manager that i really detest, i try to like him sometimes, but i can't.

But whoever comes in we must bring a better atmosphere to the Lane, all of us.

This is exactly how I feel I'm not interested in him at all.

I would be really happy with this appointment. His teams play an attractive and effective type of game while he promotes youngsters.

I agree that fdb would also be good and might help bring the best out of Vertonghen and others but the same argument can be made for Poch. You could argue players like Lamela, Soldado, even Sandro might thrive more under Poch instead.

Found this article which is quite interesting:

http://www.vavel.com/en/football/premier-league/southampton/250483-pochettino-s-saints.html

Apologies if it has been linked recently, but I haven't seen it. The table that compares the performances of the top teams against Southampton this season makes for good reading. I think with even better players his teams could really challenge for the top places.

I would support him and i like his style of play, but we need someone with a lot more experience

We are not a cuddly family club like Saints we have players with inflated egos who throw tantrums when they dont get their way, we have a chairman that is a bloody nightmare to work with, i am not sure he has the experience to command the respect of the players or the strength to tell Levy he is a ****
