This year the thread should be the race for third and fourth with Chelski thrown into the mix! Right now they are looking a little vulnerable as well.

Or even the race for CL qualification....

I am also quietly confident.

As an aside, I haven't noticed anybody talking about how Citeh failed to win directly after a CL game (I was away in Spain at the weekend admittedly).

Hansen and Lawrenson, would immediately pounce on us and Liv4pOol, despite the fact that our record was quite the opposite for much of the season

If we do Wigan and Arsenal in our next couple of games then it gives us a great head start. Winning our game in hand could potentially put us 8 points clear of Arsenal early doors, with all of our most difficult games out of the way. We just need to pick up points against the lesser teams, unlike last season. I have a lot more confidence of putting the smaller teams to the sword with Ade up front.

Im quietly confident we can finish in the top 4.

All the positions we needed to improve, we have.
We have played 3 of the other teams likely to be in the top 6 already.
With Adebayor we have a player who can win us a game when we arent playing well.

not sure, i wanted 2 strikers and a CB

if ade is injuried we could be in for a tough time, we look solid again because king is back, how long before he is out for the season again....hopefully that wont happen

gallas is great but doesnt seem to have that king effect

Reckon this should be the race for third to start with and then adjust accordingly! :)

The title is irrelevant. Obviously we are trying to finish as high in the league as we possibly can, be 4th, 3rd or higher.

'the race for 4th' is just a title to signify that 4th is the minimum requirement from us this season.

So there

It's a fair point.
Citeh started like a train, butI did say several times during the Sumemr and the first couple of games, that we would see how they do coping with CL football, but I forgot tomention it. So, thanks for reminding me.

With a full strength team for much of the season, I'd say we'd have a great chance of 3rd or 4th.

One or two long term injuries to key players such as Adebayor, and I think we'd struggle...unless we can bring in a decent alternative number 9 in January.

The increase in our overall quality with Adebayor leading the line is just staggering. It shows just how poor Crouch and Pav were/are.

If we're hovering around 3rd/4th/5th and the points are close, I'd really hope that the club would splash a chunk of cash on another striker (Leandro, Rossi, whoever).

My only concern at this moment in time is if Adebayor picks up an injury that sees him out for 4/5 weeks+. Pav should be behind Kane in the pecking order based on his performances in the Europa and CC.

Yes, I always thought a centre forward of the calibre of Adebayor would increase the overall effectiveness of the team as a whole....ie not just the striker's individual qualities but the missing ingredient who would bring the best out of others around him, being the fulcrum or spear of the side.

Its just lovely to watch.

Exactly.

I think it gives the other players confidence to do what they do best. I can imagine players like VDV, Bale and Modric last season getting the ball...looking up...seeing Crouch and/or Pav upfront, and thinking "ok..who else can I pass to" or "might as well go it alone".

Now they look up and see someone worth passing to, rather than constantly having to look for the alternative.

Does the African Cup take place 2012 and if so does Adebayor still play for Togo?

Presume we'd also lose BAE (major loss) and Bassong (minor)

Adebayor quit International football....

Yep Benny will be a loss, Bale to LB...Modric from the left, Parker and Sandro central will have to do

Seriously though Ekotto will be a big loss IMO.

Hopefully Rose will be back from injury before then and had a few first team appearances before Benny jets off but yes the alternative will probably be Bale to LB and Kranjcar ahead of of him.

This is why I feel positive about Lennon's return.

Pretty sure Cameroon didn't qualify for it. Senegal were way ahead on points last time I checked.

So it will only be Pienaar we lose then come January time? Great news re Benny but also having Bassong around still is a bonus too.
