I'm not being arrogantly confident, it's more a case of we've beaten a Wolves team that were on a good run of form away, and then comprehensively outplayed Liverpool. To follow that up with anything less than a win in the form we're in would be a bit of a let down.

You should know by now that I'm an eternal pessimist, but I've got a good vibe about the way we've played recently with Parker and Ade strengthening the spine of our team.

Wasn't accusing you of such, Len...just a more general point.
As you know I have had a good vibe about the team has been heading for a few seasons, now, leading some to believe I am the eternal optimist - just don't want expectations raised too high, and then disappointment at set-backs to be too knee-jerk, is all :)

I agree with what Kaboul said recently, that basically the only enemy is ourselves ie complacency. If we stroll into Wigan thinking we'll win you can guarantee we won't.

If we offer the same drive, appetite and application we probably will win.

I agree though TSH, this is the sort of unglamourous game that will tell us a lot about how we'll fair this season.

Herein lies the problem. After two defeats most were ready to hang themselves and after two wins most are now championing us as the best team in the history of football.

If we then lose to Wigan, I fear another week of howling about relegation and I just don't think I can take that.

So for my sanity (I'd say SP's sanity as well but I think that ship has well and truly sailed) please can we just temper expectations a little bit?

I hear you but there are noticable differences contributing to the two extreme sets of results, and I believe its that rationale that has given people optimism. Obviously I'm referring to team selection and more specifically the impact of Adebayor and Parker.

Yep they are two completely different teams I agree. But we are one Adebayor injury away from having a much weaker looking team so it's swings and roundabouts.

Are you calling me a lunanuttertick

Yes. Yes I am.

Its been mentioned on here in quite a few different threads but are we going to become a one man team? 'Cause everyones worried about adebayor getting injuried then we're out of it. We do look a different side without him.

The problem is that really we need an overhaul of our striking options...we couldn't, or didn't, do it in go, meaning we still have Defoe and Pav. As we all know, neither can play with VDV, whereas Adebayor has shown that he can play with Defoe, and the likelihood is that he will be able to play with VDV. So, obviously, we will have three forward players (save debate on VDV being a midfielder, thankyou ), at least two of whom are viable with the right partner, but neither of whom is the right partner for the other. So, in a way you could be right, because we could go back to the forwards strike rate of last season if Adebayor gets injured :)omg:), and then VDV could at least feed of Crouch - he wouldn't even be able to do that now.

Makes it vital, IMHO, to continue with the striker overhaul at the earliest convenient moment - that would appear to be January.

It's been revealed that Wilshere requires ankle surgery. Expected to be out for several months (possibly till xmas)

That's quite a blow for Arsenal

Liverpool 2 v Wolves 1

Arsenal 3 v Bolton 0

Wigan 1 v Spurs 2

So it's as we were for the round of game just gone.

I'd say we "won" this weekend considering we were playing away and both Liverpool and Arsenal were at home against teams they should beat.

Agree advantage Tottenham, away wins care harder to get.

Considering we got just one point from this fixture last time round I think any win away from home is a great result.

Yeah absolutely. Bolton are bottom and Wolves had lost their previous two as well.

Next up......

Everton v Liverpool

Spurs v Arsenal

If things go our way, we leapfrog Liverpool and still have a game in hand, and go 5 points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand.

Big weekend.

Agreed. Will either cement us as favourites for the 4th Champs League spot, or blow the race wide open (bit silly to say that at such an early stage of the season I know), regardless of what happens in the Merseyside derby.

Come on Everton tho

Would be typical Arse to win a game they aren't expected to having struggled for a few weeks as well.

It would but given we have an in form Adebayor who will be desperate to prove his worth in this one I can't see us losing the game - providing King plays again.

No Nasri or Fabregas anymore, not to mention Wilshere and their best defender by a mile missing in Vermalen...they're simply not as strong anymore.

As long as we are up for it in the traditional way I think we'll win it, their defence just won't cope with our threat up top.

Confident but not over confident.

Probably no Walcott either I believe.

Every reason to be confident, but I've learnt from the past that we should never get ahead of ourselves. We should control possession more than we usually do in a NLD though, and if we do that, we shouldn't lose at least.
