I don't think it is the Man City fullbacks marauding forward tbh, not with Mendy injured (who is a crosser anyway). What you're describing sounds like work done by the likes of Sané.

City get around their fullbacks via the vast array of small, intricate, intelligent give and go players in their team. Our attacking players simply don't have the same quality as them so I think we need to compensate in areas where we can most improve, fullback or centre Mid.

When you look at how City play they have so many clever, sharp, intricate footballers they can choose from in those positions. Our only midfielder that comes close to the maestro players they have, most notably the Silvas and De Bruyne is Eriksen & the only player of decent quality we have that can take a man on with trickery is Son but he isn't in the same league as Sane, Sterling etc with his give and go football. The one touch give and go football does so much for Man City and it you watch them, a large amount of their goals come from getting around the back of the fullbacks, low hard crossses into no mans land for the opposition.

The only player at Spurs that does elements of taking someone on around the outside and gaining an advantage is Rose, occasionally Sonny. Lucas can do it but physically his size lets them back in once he's got around them so we can't rely on him.

Personally I'd like to see players who have the ability to do this, not always as their main job is to defend but from time to time at least. The one thing the oppositon hates is someone running at them, our fullbacks simply don't do that enough and this leaves our attackers as our only real source of creativity.

If a fullback has a right peg like Beckham, fair enough but ours don't, they seldom cross first time, taking a touch and letting teams have a solit second more to get settled and for me personally I think our fullbacks inability to run into the part of the attacking third where you are afford the most space really slows down our game and options.

If Eriksen picks the ball up and doesn't have runners at fullback he can pick out, it leaves him with half the scenarios to pick from. A fullback needs to be courageous enough to use the width of the pitch not just to offer more creativity but to stretch an oppositions defence out of shape which leads to more space and less focus on our attackers who get doubled up on. Our biggest issue is teams dropping deep against us and stifling the middle, intricate give and go movement and fullbacks with the ability to run into space with and without the ball gives the middle of the park more ability to get close and develop that intricate, quick give and go football.

Davies, Trippier, Aurier, for me they don't take enough attacking risks, they don't become a threat like a quality modern day full back should because they simply don't take people on enough and it stretches our attackers into the isolated wide areas which leaves Harry up top or dropping deep with Son making the runs. I think our fullbacks leave our attacking options lacking, we always seem to be outnumbered in the final 3rd because they only offer bodies no threat. I'd like to see the four up top closer together, with width coming from our fullbacks to allow it.

Width, the ability to run with and without the ball and no floated crosses, direct running, good angles and low, sharp zipped balls across the face of the goal with our attackers more central to help them pick out more than just Kane. Kane and Sonny close to the last defenders run, Dele slightly hanging back, Eriksen on the box sweeping up a loose clearance. I'd like fullbacks who can run with a tenacious manner to squeeze our quality closer to goal

I know ITK is still saying we will go for Sessegnon but I just dont see anything in him that makes me feel he would make it with us. I know he is young so could improve but he lacks pace, ball control, dribbling skills and general defensive qualities. I think people just like him because he is young and English.

Grimaldo, Ferland Mendy or Tierney for LB imo.

Sessegnon lacks pace? Not from what I’ve seen.

Im not saying he is slow but he wont be flying up and down the pitch, leaving people trailing behind him.

He's quick enough, plus his body still has years to develop. Look at how Bale was when he was 18 compared to how it was when he joined Real. I'm not saying that will happen to Sessegnon but he gets his angles right, isn't afraid to take his man on which automatically comes into the opposition's head and zips a nice low ball in frequently. For a kid he has an eye for goal as well. If the price is right I'd definitely take a punt on him. A promising HG youngster to develop for a good price should they not be unreasonable I'd be all over

I dont think he can play LB and he isnt good enough to play LW at the top level imo. People always use the logic that if a HG player was foreign then they would be so much more highly rated than they are..but if Sess was foreign people would be saying he looks like a flop who cant perform at the top level in the prem. Im not expecting him to be amazing in his first season but his overall game looks very unimpressive so far.

Id love to be proved wrong, I really would..but id rather spend the 30mill+ it will take to get him on a better player who can make an instant impact.

WTF are you talking about. Because I compare a mixed race player to Rio Ferdinand it makes me a racist. You’re an absolute moron.

I have to agree with this. I don't really see him as a left back, In which case, I dont see the point this summer.

I get that he may be at his cheapest level, but we possibly need (wont get) 2 fullbacks, 2 centre mids, a centre back and a back up striker. It simply isn't a priority in my opinion.

Also if we do change it up to go with two 'wingers' post Eriksen, I would hope for someone considerably better at this moment in time.

Opinions/dreams for summer transfers. Based off of links, ITK, and personal preferences

CB:
OUT: Toby out £25mil. JJ basically confirmed he's off
Replacement options:
Andersen €25mil. I don't know too much about him, but the Italian media have linked us heavily to him, and stylistically he could be similar with 5.7 long balls per game
De Ligt €60mil+ this would be my dream signing and probably most others too. Barca has reportedly made/agreed €60mil fee for him, which I’d like to believe we could afford, especially if we’re letting go of such an important player in Toby. But realistically we’re competing against the biggest teams in every top 5 league for him so I really doubt we’d get him. I think especially after Ajax beat Real Madrid that exposed him even more and we’ve now left it too late to get him. A shame considering how maturely he reads the game and how he would of had a preexisting relationship with Dav
Ake £30mil. Positives of him is that he’s left footed, home grown and relatively decent on the ball. However he’s short for a CB and he’s part of one of the worst defences the last 3 seasons. He’s 24 and has 3 season of prem experience, but personally I’ve yet to be convinced by him, but could be down to Bournemouths’ defensive system.

RB:
OUT: Trippier or Aurier £20mil. One of them has to go. I am far from Trippiers biggest fan, in fact he annoys me like no one else. But he is HG, and in a 3atb his crossing can be utilised and there is less defensive responsibility on him. But he is also getting old and if there are offers, this is the best time to cash in, especially after this abysmal season. I think Aurier is attracting interest from China and would be happy to move.
Side note KWP, if Poch doesn’t trust him enough to start over either of these two after two season and Trips and Serge constantly underperforming then we may as well cash in and let him rebuild his career elsewhere.
Replacement options:
Aaron Wan-Bissaka ~£40mil. Imo we can’t afford to wait with this guy and need to conclude a deal ASAP before the biggest teams come in for him. When he came into the palace set up last January and his numbers were insane that’s when we should’ve taken notice, and now that he’s proved throughout a full season that he can sustain those numbers we need to sign him asap. Articles by statsbomb have shown that our right side of defence is by far our weakest and is constantly being exploited, so to sign AWB who is Van Dijk-esque in the sense that if someone takes him on, they simply don't get past. Also as a former winger i have no worries about him going forward more often in a more possession dominant team, and especially with Poch coaching him too.
Max Aarons ~£20mil? got to be honest I don't know much about him, but he's starting in a very good Norwich side and is just 19. HG. I'd like to think of him as the option we go after if we don't get CL next season rather than top of our list
Youcef Atal £??? seen comparisons to walker, blistering speed, has played all down the right hand side. Wouldn't be homegrown so i imagine he's not one of our first choices but certainly worth a look

LB:
OUT: Davies or Rose £20mil? Neither of them are good/consistent enough to start for us, especially as Poch is a manager who utilises fullbacks so much. Davies doesn't have the attacking output, isn't particularly fast, and isn't HG. Rose is crocked and can't play more than like 4 times a month and will be 29 by next season
Replacement options:
Ryan Sessegnon £25mil. Once Fulham are inevitably relegated we should be able to get him for a much more reasonable price than the £50mil quoted last summer, per JJ's info. He's HG, 19 by next season, very keen to work with Poch (again, thanks JJ) and very pacey. Personally i'm quite skeptical on his ability to play as LB good enough for a CL team and his performances for an admittedly poor Fulham side haven't done him too many favours.
Kieran Tierney £30mil. Biggest downside is that he's not HG, but the guy is quality. A friend of mine who's a Celtic fan says that the consensus is that he's better at this stage than Van Dijk was when he left Celtic. Under Rodgers he has played as a much more attacking fullback and a more disciplined one too, excelling at both.
Ferland Mendy £??? in Lyon games i've watched (mostly for Ndombele) he's stood out, here's hoping for a double deal ? strong and powerful yet still fast. has played LB and LWB
Grimaldo/Telles £30mil. Neither HG, but both have great attacking output. a couple pages back there are some glowing appraisals of Grimaldo. Grimaldo is 23 so could still be developed further, but is really short and not very physical. Telles is a bit older at 26 but taller and more first team ready with CL experience.

DM/CM:
OUT: Wanyama £15-25mil (If he can pass a medical) would be sad to see him go but persistent injuries have gotten the better of him
IN:
Ndombele £55-75mil. Absolute dream signing, after being a CM down after selling Dembele in January and the fact we didn't sign anyone for two windows, Poch deserves to get backed big for a player he wants in a position we desperately need strengthening in. If you have time to kill and want to watch compilations of him in big games and see stats from these big games too then search "#NdombeleWatch" on twitter as i've already and feast your eyes on them. Seems like the competition for him will be high, but im sure we could guarantee first team football
Kovacic (player exchange with Eriksen) already talked in depth HERE about why/how he'd make a good Dembele replacement
Giovani Lo Celso £???, excellent all round midfielder, amazing statistically going forwards and backwards, and he's played across a variety of positions and roles this season which Poch likes. A lot of clubs will be in for him in PSG don't decide to recall him at the end of his loan
Rabiot Free, but big signing bonus. Very well rounded player, but unlikely to have played since december by the time he arrives. Could be a big personality that may upset the dressing room, but it's a risk worth taking
Jack Grealish <£25mil. Probably the most realistic choice sadly :/ he'll be 24 by the beginning of next season. He's HG and has some good stats albeit at championship level. WhoScored seems to really rate him with his statistically calculated strengths and weaknesses, and like Lo Celso hes versatile and played multiple positions/roles this season
Sander Berge <£15-18mil. I believe a slightly more defensive player, tall, young, strong, dembele-esque, but I think i remember seeing that he had injury problems once upon a time. Only seen YouTube compilations tbh, and mostly played in Belgium, but he's performed well in the Europa League too

CAM
OUT: Eriksen £90-120mil, and possible player exchanges plus cash too. Will miss him but if he wont sign a new contract with 1 year left we need to let him go and achieve his dream
Replacement option:
Ziyech £30-40mil. He's creating an obscene amount of chances per game. 26 so entering his prime, versatile. Whoscores strengths and weaknesses include 'defensive contribution' so that can alleviate some fans' fears that our replacement wont be able to press or defend from the front. What will probably catch most fan eyes is 29 game played (eredivise and CL) 16 goals, 11 assists.
Kai Havertz £60mil? young, versatile attacking mid. We have a good relationship with Leverkusen (as far as i know) im sure they would rather sell abroad than give another generational talent to Bayern Munich so we might get him cheaper than other prices quoted. He has the third most successful dribbles by teenagers in europes top 5 leagues which could offer us something a bit different

TRIMMING THE SQUAD
Vorm and LLorente released
In: Any HG third choice keeper, and Son backup stiker until Troy Parrott can step up.
Janssen £10mil?
GKN £5mil

Then over the next few seasons, sell on Lamela (he's 27 now wtf) and upgrade our wide options, Lloris who's been on a steady decline and replace with Onana?

TLDR
Out: (total of £195mil coming in)
Toby £25mil
Tripps/Serge £20mil
Rose/Davies £20mil
Wanyama £15mil
Eriksen £100mil
dead wood £15mil

In: (total spend 195)
Andersen £20mil
AWB £40mil
Tierney £30mil
Ndombele £65mil
Ziyech £40mil

Let me know your thoughts and opionions, and ITK's don't dash my hopes too quickly

Woken up to a fair few Twitter notifications about our supposed targets, so a small influx of bullshit coming up. But I'm not trying to spam the thread. It's supposed to be where we chat about that sort of thing.

Nice post but I feel that you’re being a tad too generous on the outgoing players transfer fees. No way would we get anything close to £90m for Eriksen with only a year left in his contract.
