Apparently Gomes is available for just 20M, could we sneak another Toby deal like with Southampton.

Gomes would be an amazing deal for two reasons.

He has had a season in the prem (like Toby) and the fee is so low it would allow us to spend more money on other targets but strengthening our midfield at the same time.

We already stole Sissoko from them:sneaky:

Not to sound overly cynical (as i think he's shown himself to be decent this year) but i'm pretty sure if there's truth to the 20m buyout, that is the main reason why we are/have been interested. Levy loves this type of deal as it's a no-brainer financially. He carries on playing well and as an asset, he's worth more. Doesn't really do much, he's still worth that sort of money in today's market.

We were all wetting our collective pants over the idea of Schneiderlin.

Andre Gomes at £20m has Levy all over it, especially as a long-term target. That said I do wonder if he's enough to take us to the next level. I'm not convinced. If it meant we got a couple of top full backs for big money like say Wan-Bissaka and Grimaldo/Tierney then it might be worth it. It's likely we need to take a cheaper option on 1 or 2 players considering we may be looking to bring 5-6 in this summer.

Zaniolo looks a real talent with a lot of flair, you'd imagine Juve will end up getting him.

I keep saying we've dodged a bullet with Andre Gomes but it's more like a heat-seeking missile at this point. Seems destined to happen.

I’m sure people say Juve are going to sign half of the players on the planet.

More like we missed the boat by not signing him instead of Everton, when we had the chance. We could've very much done with him this season considering our many, many injuries in CM.

Hope it happens. He'd add good depth along with Winks, Sissoko and 1 other.

Juve and Bayern have built their domestic dominance in recent years by hoovering up all the top talent in their respective divisions, just look at their squad and where the majority of the players came from. It's like Fergie did for a while when Utd were at their peak too.

Might sound like a broken record but they will be strong favourites for every breakthrough talent in their league, especially a homegrown one.

I hated the years when the only viable option most of the time for a player to get a big move was to go to Man United. They got stronger and simultaneously their opposition got weaker.
Much as the money has spoiled things, it at least broke that monopoly.

The three players i'm near certain we'll sign this summer are Sessegnon, Andersen and Gomes.

Gomes seems nailed on to me.
Neither Sess or Gomes are good enough to make us better. Would be massively underwhelming if after not spending for 18 months our signings are of that ilk.

Have a read through this thread and you will see way better players suggested.

I’m really hoping the summer is about signing players we haven’t been linked to, much the same way we signed Son or Sanchez.

100%, it was the bane of my youth. It's great to see Utd fans on redcafe still thinking they can just rock up and sign the likes of Kane and Dele, and being confident it wouldn't happen.

Such a shame we missed the boat with De Ligt, could see him and Sanchez leading our defence for years. Ajax sure know how to develop CBs.

As for Gomes, I don't see him as someone who would improve our starting XI but I do see him as a good option to have in the squad for a team who aspire to fight on four fronts. We can't go and buy a world class player in every position unfortunately, well we probably can't do that anyway, we will aim for players like Son/Sanchez/Sissoko/Eriksen who are close to being at an elite level but weren't quite there yet.
