Don't get so precious, we do everything to death, it's who we is. This is just part of a wider debate and Pritchard is a more relevant and recent example. And for the record, Pritchard was on the mend when packed off to WBA. And we bought Njie and Nkoudou knowing we had Pritchard.
I'm not being precious, it's just super tedious.

For all any of the discussion is worth, it may have been that Pritchard pushed for the loan move to get fitness thinking he'd get first team football.

Good to see Carter-Vickers playing for the US in the U20 WC after coming back from injury. Looked very solid today as the US took the lead in their group with a 1-0 victory over Senegal.
He was like a rock in his return at the back. Completely changed the complexion of the defense after a very poor first game from the group. Was good to see him back and helped us to a crucial 3 points.

So now you are joining in the tedious discussion. See how easy it is.

What International Tournament are the youth players heading off to at the moment?

Our half time talk by John McDermott

can someone tell me what he's talking about? I can't hear properly.

Something about winning their headers, not getting caught under them and watching for the oppositions off the ball movement from that situation, he's telling Marsh & Lock.

To Marsh "Your last header was miles, miles better, they're looking to play the ..?... (dance, maybe?)"
to Lock "You too Lockie".
To everyone "So you've got to be aware of that - and don't get caught ...?... (under it, maybe?)"
To everyone "I'm saying all the time..."

End of clip.

So why buy them ?

Vlad was a shocking buy.
It's pretty simple.

Poch sees these players all the time, including the youth. If he sees an area of need where he believes the youth player isn't good enough to fill it they go to the transfer market.

Sometimes in doing so we get a player who also is not good enough. Then everyone complains we should have never bought player X because player Y in the academy is just as good as player X. Even though when buying player X they obviously thought he would be better than player Y.

The argument is sound if they say player Y should play over player X.

The argument is not sound if they say player X should never have been bought because at the end of the day we still have a need at that position.

We've done this before, they are completely diffent type of players who play different positions, 1 is an creative AM, 1 is a fast striker/wide forward and the other is a quick tricky winger. If need more creativity to unlock a stubborn defence, you are not going to use Njie or GKN and if you want some one to add width, run at defenders at speed or get in behind a defence you are not going to use Pritchard.

There are big question marks as to we be bought Njie and GKN and I can completely understand the disappointment of letting Pritchard go but 1 has nothing to do with the other and it has also been mentioned that Prichard asked to leave as he wanted 1st team football, so we may have wanted to keep him as a squad player but not wanted to retain an unhappy player.

It's not that simple IMO. They are all attacking options vying for limited squad and pitch time. They may be different types, as Njie is different to Nkoudou but the bottom line is they are all about creativity and productivity in the final third. And Sissoko certainly is not a tricky winger or fast wide striker/wide forward. You seriously telling me that whatever the question, Pritchard isn't a better attacking answer ?

Probably shouldn't have but that's the part I didn't understand :(
I'll use an example then.

Basically what I'm saying is Poch and McDermott see these players every day. So in a sense we're beheld to their judgments and should probably trust them, plus their track record gives validity to that.

Take the WF position with Spurs. The role of someone who can dribble and attack the opposition at pace is a role we've obviously been targeting and attempted to fill. We've failed so far with the purchases of Njie and Nkoudou and have also targeted players like Zaha.

Now on the flipside there is/was an academy product in Oduwa who filled the remit in its most basic sense. As in that is his playing style. That said McDermott and Poch have already deemed him not good enough through training etc. So then they go out and buy players who flop like Njie and Nkoudou.

Now after those players flop people like to say "well Oduwa is just as good as those players so we shouldn't have bought them and just played Oduwa instead."

Which is clearly wrong.

None of them were good enough so really none of them played. We're looking to actual fix the problem so we need to take punts on those players and hope they don't work out. Some won't, that's the nature of the business. The fact is we can't just plug Oduwa in there and say "job done" - so we need to keep trying. We might keep failing, but the point is that's still a hole in the squad. Given our transfer budget/scouting remit we'll also still need to take punts.

Does that make more sense?
