So Edwards won't be around for pre season with the first team then? Was hoping he'd be with the squad for the US tour.

the euros finish before the us tour starts, i still don't expect edwards to be involved with the first team until he signs a new contract though so will probably slum it with the u23s instead.

Just read a good article on Anton Walkes time so far at Atlanta. Seems like he's really enjoying it, wouldn't be surprised if he tried to get a permanent move there

I've recently become friends with one of the coaches at Interwood, the modern day equivalent of Senrab. While I know many on here have super high hopes of Marcus Edwards he tells me that his attitude is a bit suspect. The Spurs player the coaches at Interwood expect really big things of is Kazaiah Sterling. While he might not have Marcus' raw talent apparently he is miles ahead in attitude and they expect him to be a star.

That would be very very nice if we could get him in first team squad alongside Kane.

As we seem pretty shit buying strikers thesedays guess we gotta make them lol.

what exactly is a "suspect" attitude though?

bentaleb for example was someone seen to have had a suspect attitude, a player who was named by his teammates as the hardest worker at the club and a player who voluntarily asked to play in the u21s to keep up match sharpness. maybe he was a little headstrong and confident in his abilities but i personally wouldn't see those characteristics as being synonymous with that of a questionable attitude. to me that would apply to a player who doesn't want to listen or put the work in and i see no reason to believe that's the case with marcus, i just think he's very driven and wants to get to the top and probably looks at all the fuss the likes of tom davies and ryan sessegnon are getting and is thinking that should be him.

It's actually from the OS, had too search for it, was buried somewhere:

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/new...s-atlanta-united-loan-colorado-rapids-260617/

From driving on the right side of the road to dealing with extreme weather conditions, sampling new sports and, this past weekend, making his first career league start – Anton Walkes says he’s enjoying an eye-opening experience in America with Atlanta United.

The versatile 20-year-old defender picked up his first taste of senior action with us last pre-season, before making his competitive debut in the 5-0 win over Gillingham in the EFL Cup a couple of months later.

A regular for our development squad in recent seasons, he embarked on a whole new journey in January when he travelled across the Atlantic to link up with new MLS ‘expansion team’ Atlanta on loan.

And it’s fair to say he’s seen it all in the ensuing months!

Used primarily as a centre-back, Anton had the distinction of playing in United’s first ever competitive match, a home MLS clash with New York Red Bulls in March, only to suffer the disappointment of conceding a late own goal as his side lost 2-1.

Never one to bow to adversity, he continued grafting and after further appearances off the bench against Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps, he earned his first start in a 3-2 US Open Cup victory over Charleston Battery earlier this month before being named in an MLS starting XI for the first time against Colorado Rapids in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Let me clarify, I think the suspect attitude relates to application. It seems like Sterling has a Kane like focus on getting to the top, unclear that Edwards does.

i was lucky enough to spend a lot of time at the training ground in Enfield a couple of years ago and got to know a few of the coaches and a couple of the scouts on a chatting basis and from my experience its more than their jobs worth to go discussing team matters to outsiders .

Marcus at that time was just beginning to find his way into the U18's and was the big hope for the future he was always approachable and polite though. I find the stories about attitude extremely churlish and off putting he is still a young boy and who knows what is future may hold but writing things on a second hand piece of gesticulation is fairly pointless tittle tattle and amounts to very little imo

Marcus from what I have seen has always had the coaches encouraging and cajooling him. Largely for him to find ways to get more invovled and get more out of him that's not attitude related it's his learning curve.

Kaz is very different for a kid to play as a lone striker it's very hard and they have to learn different aspects of the game. Kaz is a willing learner and has shown on the whole improvement continually both physically and mentally. i am not totally convinced that has the build or outstanding attributes for a modern striker but all he can do is improve and for a lot of coaches that's a great thing to have

Unfortunately I can only see Sterling going the same way as Coulthirst and Obika. All decent, all very hard workers, all have a great attitude and by all accounts have excellent professionalism but in all cases they don't have express pace, aren't "natural" finishers and don't really handle a ball well enough to be effective linking strikers (Obika could at least fall back on his size). Its frustrating because all of them are the kind of players that you really want to make it but I think Sterling will end up knocking around League 1 & 2.

I used to think that. But I think Stirling has really improved recently and is technically very underrated. Odds are he wont make it here, but I think he has a much better shout at it than Couthirst and Obika ever did.

Ye sounds good initially, but I reckon De Boer will soon find himself feeling the pressure of getting results by any means necessary, and will end up spending money on average players as they are more reliable than using the 'academy'. Hope he does get a chance though.
De Boer as a coach is academy driven and is credited for ajax resurgence in producing players as a youth coach in 2007-2010, he is the type who would potentially mix both imo

If Nya does well in the u21 he will make his debut next season imo

I think people are taking a bit of moody teenager(which they a lot of them are) with his image and interpreting it as a suspect attitude

He definitely has the attitude to get to the top, the problem may be he needs convincing he will get it here

De Boer was in charge of the academy at Ajax for 3 years before he became manager so was always going to have an affinity for youth their the same way Sherwood did in his short time as manager here, however it remains to be seen if he will do the same elsewhere (after all Sherwood didn't at Villa) especially with the pressure in the PL and I think his experience at Inter might make him all the more aware of the consequences.

Honestly find these stories about Edwards very surprising. Its clear that there is no better place to be if you're a very talented kid,we've shown time and time again if a kid has superstar qualities we will make him a superstar .Bale Kane dele rose walker .Any kid in Edwards position to throw away this opportunity, would obviously be very foolish. We have such a reputation now with bringing through quality youth, that anyone that can play a significant role in 1st xi ,is virtually guaranteed a World Cup spot.I really don't think it's impossible Edwards could go to Russia. If he really shines when he gets a chance this season he has a chance.England really don't have a player like him.

Massively disappointed in us (and every other club involved, from the PL clubs involved, to the stupid portion of Football League clubs who voted this format to remain: turkeys voting for Christmas) for being a part of this heap of shite.

Fuck us, and fuck every other person in favour of this.

:(

I can kind of see your point here but wonder if you have a lower league club near you.

Check out the link in which Cheltenham Town explain why they voted for Christmas. May be of interest, may not.
