So...we're now 99% certain what the new first year intake is. I thought I'd give an update on what the coming season's U16s group looked like. We can keep track of who leaves and who will potentially make up next season's group of first years.

Goalkeepers

Kacper Kurylowicz (Milton Keynes based keeper, very agile. Represented England & Poland at youth level. Highly rated.)
Bartlomiej Cichowlas (Another English/Polish lad)
Adam Green

Defenders

Kane Patterson (Right Back, younger brother of Phoenix)
Dennis Cirkin (talented Right back, not sure if it's Dennis or Dannis) It is Dennis and he's a LB, and as you say talented
Alexander Monroe (Recent recruit, can play anywhere down the right hand side)
Malachi Walcott (England youth defender. CB & LB)
Luis Binks (Represented Scotland & England at youth level. Elegant CB.)
Dequan Wilson-Braithwaite (Left back) Unsure if he is still here
Josh Gray

Timi Sobowale (may have left)

Midfielders

Josh Setchell (Not sure if he's still with us, pretty sure he is a Right sided winger)
Harvey White (Maidstone lad, tidy midfielder)
Rafferty Pedder (Another Maidstone boy, skillful playmaker)
Blake D'arcy (Enfield lad, skillful midfielder)
Noni Mandeki (Signed from Crystal Palace as an U14, box to box or attacking midfield)
J'Neil Bennett (Recent recruit from QPR, plays as a number 10)
Rio Glean (Winger)
Christian Carter
Ryan Penton (may have left)
Joe Dearman
Sashon Aird-Munn

Forwards

Tarelle Whittaker (Striker, goal scorer)
Enoch Asante (Striker), goal scorer
Troy Parrott (Signed as an U15 from Belvedere in Ireland, Irish international, hot prospect, links play)
Henry Fuller (Don't know if he's still with us, Striker)
Chay Cooper (Signed as U15 from Southend United, can play Attacking midfield or up front)

SPURZINHO: Excellent breakdown o,f Spurs U16. Do you know anything about the following (who were part of the U15 squad last year): - Max Robson, D'jean Spencer , Marcus Muir , Sashon Aird Munn, Christian Carter , Josh Gray.

Thanks

By my reckoning D'Jean Spencer was part of the group that's just joined the academy full time, in which case he didn't make the grade. Its not impossible that I'm wrong on that but it would mean that he's been playing at least 2 years up for the last couple of seasons. I'm sure he played U16 football 2 years ago which, if he's 15ish now, would mean he would have been 13 then which just doesn't seem right.

Max Robson, Marcus Muir, Christian Carter, Josh Gray & Shashon Aird Munn I know to look at but very little about them. Carter is fairly small, Munn is a tall lad as is Gray.

.

I reckon Spencer has left.

I believe Robson and Muir are now u15s. Muir is a highly rated CB who seems to always play up. Carter is very small attacking midfielder.

Also don't know why the OS are taking so long to put up the new intake when their pictures are all done. We are so slow

Green I'd forgotten all about, Glean sort of rings a bell but I don't know for sure, as for Carter, Penton, Dearman, Aird-Munn & Gray are they not the year below this one? That's why I left them off.

By the way @Spurzinho, the point I was making is not that Edwards is tactically perfect without the ball or that Alli is always lazy, the point I was trying to make was that there are always compromises made for gains in other tactical dimensions and I don't think Edwards compromise/benefit ration is out of whack with others we see. I just find it a bit odd that development kids seem to be held to higher standards and accountability by some than first team players or purchased players do.

Dier hides from the ball under pressure. Does Winks or Onomah ? Alli's pressing is very half arsed at times but he produces so it's tolerated. Wnayama lacks finesse and vision but his a rapacious beast who is brilliant without the ball. Eriksen's a bit of a fanny in the tackle but he closes down intelligently and with the ball he's our conductor, and produces.

There are always tactical compromises. I'm not saying Edwards is perfect or that I'd overlook or let him get away with everything, but from what I've seen of him (plenty) so far at youth levels the compromises aren't catastrophic (he definitely seems to be working harder without the ball as well) and the benefits are abundant.

Playing devil's advocate here (great pinball game btw) BC, but it's possible Alli's pressing is deliberately less than you see from other players because they want his energy conserved for when we have the ball. He essentially plays two roles as both a creative attacking midfielder and something approximate to a striker, so he may be under instruction not to press as much as the others - or at least given license to conserve energy as he sees fit. Again I'm not saying that is the case, just that it's a possibility - I can remember both Henry and Real Ronaldo talking about being told to conserve their energy for 'explosive' moments of speed and power, so it's not impossible that Alli has similar instructions considering how much of the pitch he is expected to cover when we're in possession.

Was he released ?

think he was offered an extension but guess he's decided to leave.

i never thought he had enough to make it here but always felt we(u21s/u23s) played better with him in the side, a lot of the time he was overlooked in favour of more physical options like walkes but we were never the better for it.

What I'd add to that is that the U19's (as with the other England age group teams this summer) weren't exactly that diligent or organised when out of the possession in any case. So it looks even harsher if that was the reason for Edwards missing out on a starting place.

Haven't seen this posted, but decent view of who is with the team for those like me that are not as ITK of our youth set-up: http://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/spurs-youngsters-usa-tour-squad-13355725

just a point on jaden brown. the article implies that he was doing so well at u18s that he got pushed up to the u23s but that's not really how it happened. he actually lost his place at u18 level as tsaroulla was impressing, as a result brown got bumped up to the u23s for game time which on the face of it sounds good but really the u23s were a mess last year and i think we were deliberately keeping the u18s away from it so it was almost a consolation prize. not taking anything away from him though as he stepped up well and looked comfortable.

Edwards missing out because of England duty?

Tottenham Academy‏@thfcacademy 6h
That isn't the reason.

---------------

i won't be surprised if he's in the squad for the cambridge game on friday.

i guess no one told him about the 21 day rule then lol. edun and sessegnon are also out in austria with fulham's first team squad. i know we all hope there's nothing going on and everything is fine but it's becoming increasingly clear to me that poch has excluded him from first team plans until he signs.

Yup. Edwards can't be relishing the prospect of playing with the development squad in Cambridge, away from Poch's watchful gaze, whilst a number of less talented players are out in the States.

Newcastle United are on the brink of losing one of their most talented youngsters in youth team defender Lewis Gibson. The England youth international defender, who turned 17 today, has not signed a professional contract with the Magpies and Everton are eager to take him to Goodison Park. Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are also interested in his signature and a fee of over £6million has been discussed with the Toffees this week.Gibson only has a year left on his scholarship and as he has entered the last 12 months it can be terminated at any time.

Anyone know much about him? Seems we are still trying to sign talented youngsters with this link and the Sessegnon/Sancho links.

It's becoming clear that there's an issue behind the scenes. The thing that stands out for me is that we don't really have a player in the first team with his skillset. So you would think that he would be a useful wild card to take a look at in pre season games against quality opposition. I thought something similar with a few other players previously aswell, Oduwa for example. Hope Edwards doesn't go the same way.

he played all the games at the u17 euros but was hard to gauge as he was playing out of position, he's a cb but was playing lb where he was solid, but limited.
