what im worried about is signing Barkley and him getting force feed into a cm role. while along with Winks, Dier, Wanyama and Dembele there wont be the opportunity for Josh. I don't mind Barkley signing if he is used as an attacking midfielder but that isnt the vibes im getting from the club.

We are a top club and need as many good players as possible. If Josh is good enough, which I think he is, he will make it.

oh I believe fully that Onomah and Winks will be apart of the spine that will propel this club to another level. still be nice if josh doesnt get stifled. And of course the more talent the merrier.

Stuart Pearce is an odd one. How is Onomah not the man of this match. He's barely mentioning him yet he scored one created the other and was great all night.

knew he'd give it to calvert-lewin, he had a hard on for him all night even though he was largely peripheral.

Anyone know where I could watch a replay of the game? Would love to see our lads ply their trade

Sad to say I’m not quite as excited as I once was.For no particular reason other than I was expecting him to be in TOB position at this stage. He seems to play a lot deeper than I would expect. His best work always seems to be around the box.Without players leaving it looks almost impossible for him to cement a long term place in the team.I could see him as a super sub over the next 2-3 years. But ultimately if we carry on our progression,I could see him getting very frustrated by 21/22 and moving on.All of this is just a gut feeling.

I'd love to see Edwards get game time for the first team now. At this point I don't think he has much more to learn playing age-group football and I think it'll be easier for a player of his ilk to play in our first team which is very well drilled.

I don't think a lower league loan like with Onomah will benefit him. A central midfielder has far more responsibility and the role is more demanding. Experience counts there.

However these floaty attacking midfielders at senior level are more often than not only as good as the players around him. There's a reason why managers in the rough and tough leagues don't play the perceived 'more talented footballers'. You may be able to pluck the ball out of the sky and do Ronaldo chops in training with your mates but can you deliver the goods when it matters, away from a closed door environment and where you do whatever it takes to win?

It's a little bit of a sad mentality but results = livelihoods. Football is well and truly a job in the lower leagues.

edwards has 7 goals in 8 starts for club and country this season with some absolute crackers amongst them and yet it seems people are suddenly so down on him. it's like he had his 15 minutes(quite literally) of fame against gillingham but because nothing happened after that people have moved on and are looking for the next in line when actually he's still the biggest young talent at the club and is getting better all the time.

Absolutely. This has never been an issue with his ability and he is still clearly proving he is progressing in that department now. Poch has said he thinks he is very talented and also why he is playing at the level he is. Can't understand why people can't just believe him when he says it's about conditioning and strength and nothing more. From what I hear Edwards is improving in this department, so perhaps Poch is right in what he is doing. Surely it's better for a player that is just short of strength and conditioning to be playing as many games as he can to build that up, than to have first team status and have far fewer minutes where he won't build on his deficiencies anywhere near as quickly.

Because most people subscribe to the no smoke without fire theory and between the delays to contracts, lack of first team opportunities, often limited playing time at U23 level, not cracking the starting XI for his England age group over the summer and constant speculation, there's certainly been a lot of smoke. I don't personally agree but it's not hard to see why people were/are worried.
