Personally don’t buy the conditioning talk.TOB is pretty lightweight a year younger but still involved with 1st squad.Theres too many stories about his attitude to not believe there’s something in it.It may not be anything drastic,I don’t think his a bad egg or disruptive. But Maybe he just doesn’t knuckle down enough. He will be 19 in December,so really needs to start having some impact on 1st squad before end of season.
When you think transfer wise we need very little next summer.AM would probably be No 1 priority. Also have a feeling as we only need 1 or 2 next summer and new stadium it could be a big marquee signing. Then Edwards is behind dele eriksen Son Lamela Barkley? Nkoudou? Marquee signing? Just my opinion but I feel he needs to make an impact before end of season.

Ironically, I didn't think Onomah had a great first half, even though England were much better in that first half, he wasn't terrible, just bit erratic and tried to do too much a couple of times, but I thought he was actually better second half and played an absolutely delicious ball for the third goal and played a couple of other incisive passes. I thought KWP had a very good game throughout. Once again though, very disappointing to see a pretty talented generation look very ordinary collectively in the hands of Boothroyd. Seen the pattern of this game in so many of his games now, his teams have no overriding coached, tactical ethos and games tend to lurch from full control not zero control against every opposition, good and bad. As a result England found themselves getting outplayed for big chunks of the second half by a poor team (the Scotland 10 aside, who looked very decent).

Listening to Pearce talk highlights what a poor custodian he was of this age group too. How the fuck does he pick Calvert Lewin as MOTM of that game? I like Calvert Lewin, kids got promise but he was played out of position and consequently had virtually no influence on that game at all. All the times I have watched Solanke, I still have no idea what he is ? Is he a striker ? Because he doesn't really have the attributes of an ACM ? Unless it's the Alli kind, good at arriving, not so great at everything before that. Overtime I watch Solanke he seems to try and take people on and fail. I know he's got ability, just not sure how it's best used ?

i've only ever known solanke as a #9 but lately he seems to just get played wherever just to fit him in. as for boothroyd, he has his drawbacks but i have to credit him as he's the only manager to consistently play onomah in his actual position so for that i'm grateful. it's a shame, from a purely selfish pov, that winks got pushed up to the seniors as it would've been interesting to see he and onomah play alongside each other, would've been a good barometer to see where onomah is at by comparison.

Simpson also played Onomah as a CM, certainly did in the WC any way, didn't see much of the qualifiers. I think that set the marker down for Boothroyd?

He could have played a 433 with Winks and Onomah either side of Cook, with Lookman and Grey either side of Abraham. Would have been much more balanced instead of trying to accommodate Solanke, Abraham and Calvert-Lewin in a 4231. I think they would have been better with KWP at RB too, though he had a very good game I thought.

Thought Solonke was England's worse player, creatively nothing from him, and he often held onto the ball too often. He looked like he was trying to his Harry Kane impression, back when Harry played in a Sheringham role in a strike partnership for the development/academies sides. But Solanke didn't seem to know the movement or the type of link up required to be effective.

Also think Abraham is going to be an excellent player if he sharpens his hold up play and his ability to battle physically with the centerbacks.

Question I've been wondering, especially in light of having to leave out two expensively acquired players in Janssen and Lamela from our CL squad:

Would we have been any worse off keeping Button / Archer, who are both doing well at decent Championship sides, rather than having our number 2 and 3 goalies as Vorm and Gazzaniga. Even if there is a dip in quality, those players get such little game time anyway, surely we could have boosted our home grown quota by giving more opportunity to two talented goalkeepers from our academy, no?

It was more a question of letting them get their careers started. Why would they want to be here as back up well into their 20's? Like McGee they left with our best wishes and they've all gone off and done extremely well for themselves.

they needed to play, keeping them here on the off-chance that they might get a game or two wouldn't have done them any good.

i am surprised we sold mcgee though, not because i thought he was a future spurs #1 but he did very well on loan at peterborough so i thought the next logical step was to get him a good championship loan, i think we sold him too early and he could've been built up into a more valuable asset before letting him go permanently. honestly, i don't really see where this gazzaniga experiment is going and it makes about as much sense to me as a spanish u21 international keeper leaving regular football in la liga to come and sparingly play for our u23s for a year before returning from whence he came ..

yeah i just meant consistently over different age groups. boothroyd played him there as an u19, then briefly as an u20 before he moved up and then now as an u21. i'm not actually sure about josh in a three anymore, i get that it frees him up a little bit defensively but i just think when the emphasis is on him to provide some form of attacking threat that's when his games starts to fall down. i've not liked the balance in the first team when we've played wanyama, dembele and winks together(unless it's to see out a game) and i think it would be the same for onomah if you subbed him in for dembele. i just like him holding and then getting forward when he chooses to, rather than when he's made to if that makes sense.

i'd like to see kwp at rb too but alexander-arnold is their golden boy at the moment so he's going to play more often than not.

Eurosport commentators have the Chelsea and Man City players cocks in their mouths the whole game. Apparently McEachran is 'dominating the game' yet gives it away regularly. Latibeaudiere is poor, was in the Euros. Sancho's first touch has been heavy, wonder how much he's actually played since last season.

The commentators are idiots, they keep sneering at England for keeping the ball.

If only the senior team could keep the ball like that....
